Packages are missing

Hi Sparky users,

I use the testing release of Sparky Linux 8.

Since last update some days ago I have the problem, that I can not install some programs, they I used before.
After the updating procedere they are not available in the database.

For instance, these are some of for me important programs:
GIMP
xsane
k3b

For examle, when I try to install GIMP, I get the following messages (translated):

$ sudo apt install gimp
Package gimp is not available, but is supported by another package
referenced. This can mean that the package is missing, that it has been replaced
or is only available from another source.

Error: There is no installation candidate for package "gimp".

Some months ago I have had a similar problem. But, in this case the reason were not suitable sources - in my case for "unstable". At that time I could solve the problem by removing these sources.

But, now, I think, my sources are up to date. In last months my system works without any problems. Here are my current sources.

Have you any idea to solve my problem?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Apparently, the problem occurs for everyone who is using debian testing/trixie as well.

Then, last September, they were removed from the repo (gimp & xsane) and aren't available:

And in the case of k3b, there is a significant dependency problem and it simply cannot be installed:

I don't know why my previous message was published incomplete (... even when editing the message).

So I'm going to continue here:

Well, I guess you must be patient and hope that the debian developers can solve those problems.

Hello AxL,
thank you for your answers.

Oh, what for news. In this case I only can wait, until new versions of desired programs are developed or/and habe found the way in the testing release, isn'it?

Yes, of course, there are alternatives, them I can use to this moment.

Have a good sunday evening!

If you look at the links to the bug reports, in my first post. Specifically in these two messages:

  • Message #10 (xsane - Fri, 22 Nov 2024')

  • Message #24 (gimp - Mon, 21 Oct 2024')

You can see, that the patches for the possible fix, have already been added.

So, as I said at the beginning, we can only hope that they include them in the new version. To be able to correct/fix the problems that exist now.

OTOH, if you need a workaround, until this is fixed. You can use gimp as AppImage.

    Cheers !!
