In Sparkylinux 6.1 and 7, the (ex Ralink and Mediatek now) RT 3290 Bluetooth driver isn't included with installation or updates and it is difficult to get the Bluetooth working even with a USB dongle; Blueman e Bluez are installed but does not connect with the other devices, any idea on how to sort this problem out? I tried the procedure following this link (the repository does not come from official sources and it maybe risky) https://github.com/robertbindar/Mediatek-Ralink-RT3290-Updated-Driver but didn't work saying was not possible with Kernel 5.15.0-2 as I am on Sparky 7 semi rolling. Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Axl, the package you indicated is already installed but doesn't allow to search for any device plus after a minute says "connection to Bluez failed, Bluez daemon is not running, bluetooth-manager cannot continue, this probably means that there were no Bluetooth adapters detected or Bluetooth daemon was not started. The wifi works well but the bluetooth is a pain in the ass...

Sorry for the delay in replying. I have been busy.  ;)

Here's a guide on how to make rtbth-dkms work:
(The manual is for ubuntu. So if you follow it, is under your own responsibility)

  • How to Make Ralink rt3290 Bluetooth Work
(link is to web.archive.org, because it seems that right now, the proper page is down)

    - Here, you have more updated versions available (rtbth-dkms):

  • rtbth-dkms/+packages
(And the version that seems to be compatible with debian testing (SparkyLinux 7) is this one
    rtbth-dkms_3.9.7~git20210905-1~focal1_amd64.deb)

    Cheers!!    :)

No problem at all Axl; I tried with the focal1.deb for Sparky7 but even if the package has installed it didn't work, I tried disabling wi-fi but no luck... It doesn't allow to search for any device plus after a minute says "connection to Bluez failed, Bluez daemon is not running, bluetooth-manager cannot continue, this probably means that there were no Bluetooth adapters detected or Bluetooth daemon was not started.

Although the question may seem obvious, have you correctly completed all the steps described in the manual?
(install, modprobe, autoload module on startup ...)

I ask, because reading the comments included at the bottom of the page, almost all the users have it working correctly.

As a last resort you could check these two links (and get the problem solved):

I already tried what you said and nothing worked for me; I think I'll pass on Bluetooth as I spent too much time and shouldn't take all this procedure to get a Bluetooth working...

Henry1

Btw Axl, thank you for your help and Merry Christmas!!

I got the Bluetooth working Axl, I hadn't disabled Secure Boot that's why was not working; the only problem is that the bluetooth icon doesn't load if I boot the system, I have followed the instruction for the autoload on start up but I have to use the command modeprobe rtbth to get it working again, is this a bug or I forgot something??

Henry1

I modified the rc.local file and the bluetooth icon shows up when I reboot the system; the only problem is that the bluetooth works only with Legacy and NOT Secure boot, why is that? Thank you for all your help Axl and Merry Christmas once again!

"Secure Boot requires all drivers to be signed properly; not all drivers are signed and SecureBoot doesn't work with all of them as a result"

I will not sign any driver that is NOT officially signed so that I will NOT use the Bluetooth on Sparkylinux...

Honestly, I don't give a ****. Do whatever the **** you want.   :o
(the driver, is not directly from debian, or SparkyLinux. It's from a third party repository).

You were looking for a solution to YOUR problem. And I told you, how to solve it. So, I'm done here.

BTW, you can sign the driver yourself. And keep using that 'Secure Boot' crap. Just use a search engine, and STFW (Search The Fantastic Web).

PS. I think this thread should be moved to a specific forum like   'Hardware'

I do what I want, you can be sure; to me this is a "partial" solution where do I need to take responsability of installing something coming from a third party...I already thanked you for your help...
