I'm back!

TV MODEL:
LG WebOS 65SK800PUA

Okay so I installed via onboard video as live install environment wasn't having it. That worked in 4k UHD fine...

Now that I've got the actual system installed I reconnected my AMD 5500 XT and used the AMD "Ubuntu" drivers for that specific card...

SparkyGameOver 2020.05 wouldn't let me run the DEB script as it was ID'd as "debian" not "sparky" I edited the script to ID it as "sparky"

Running the script results in it telling me it was either installed improperly or not fully uninstalled. Tried uninstall command with same script then reinstall... same error...

I downloaded aranrd to attempt to force it to UHD resolution...

GTF/ARANDR Results:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/188797102@N03/shares/3Px6f2

I also attempted using *recovery in advanced options boot.
It recognized that it still thinks its running Intel onboard video and has a line about switching it to amd. When it gets to that line the recovery process hangs and I have to do hard shutdown.

Last Line's generated:
fbo switching to amdgpulbdrm from EFI VGA          #(Hard Shutdown) Hangs here.

Above that also this line:
amd gpu kernal modesetting enabled libdrm-amdgpu-common__1.0.0.1

Along with a lot of other lines... had to take handwritten notes as no screenshot capability Im aware of in that mode so syntax isn't exact on those...

Below I am going to post copy/paste from System Information showing the conflicts, for any so inclined to investigate...

There's a list in my TV's settings of opensource software there's one out there called "Gnomovision" for this model tv, but google results only turn up tons of license files...

I'm making a recovery sparky iso dvd then I'm taking a break. Took me 2-3 days just to get the distro installed to the system itself... see installation forum if you like reading lol

Thanks for any directions, advice, or comic relief lol

Part of me is like whoa... maybe I'm biting off more than I can chew here...

The other part of me is like diagnosing and actually resolving technical issues is gratifying...

On the fence a lil now lol def gonna make a WIN 10 VM

Probably gonna have to reinstall it feels like, without the onboard video on/in use... might reinstall stable version? whew i just dont know lol

Kyanite393

I think it's running graphics via CPU atm... not taking card at all..

I'm going to attempt a fresh reinstall with AMD 5500 XT connected and the onboard gpu disabled in bios see how she likes it.

Am I spamming? Sorry if I am just updating so no one is researching for no reason...

Thank you thank you

Ok. First things first. Linux in not windows, forget what you've learnt using product from M$.

Sparky is based on Debian so from now on focus on doing stuff Debian way.

To properly handle your AMD card you need:
- kernel 5.5 - being on testing branch you already have it
- mesa 19.3 (20.0 recommended) - testing have 20.0
- amdgpu driver, firmware-amd-graphics and some other useful stuff - details at the link below

Awesome! Thank you so much for pointing me out to that would have took me hours to find probably.

I install those noted files/drivers once im in actual HDD Mounted installed rolling sparky correct?

Don't do all that in sparkygameover live during install process?

You rock!

Kyanite393

Apologize for my english and writing style I tend to ramble and present info out of order... I'm working on it.

I talk/type a lil off...

No dont install that stuff in non persistent live environment. Some of the stuff I pointed in my previous post is already part of live environment. I cant guarantee its enough to carry out the installation process. If it's not enough you can always install sparky with intel GPU, and switch to amd afterwards.

I could not resolve this issue. Attempting to get the correct AMD drivers installed for the 5500 XT resulted in me getting the black screen.

From what I've been told here the stables of sparky don't have support for this card and also seems the rollings don't either, maybe because it's a newer card? I don't know.

So since AMD has ready made drivers for my card for Ubuntu 20.04 which is also Debian based I just used the sparky stable lxqte installed with onboard graphics. Once that was installed I used it to create the Ubuntu 20.04 DVD then shutdown hooked up my actual video card, went in BIOS disabled onboard. Then installed 20.04 via the DVD.
Seems my system is just not compatible with gameover rolling... which was kind of sad for me.

Thanks for all of your help. This issue was not resolved.

I tried holding down right shift that would load but get a hangup, was able to get system booted via ESC key to install Sparky Stable to then go on and move to Ubuntu which supports my hardware.

Also tried system recovery and an actual sparky rescue ISO and could not get them to jive.
