You do not need to change repositories now, wait until Buster become stable and I will publish a post about transfering from one version to newer.

Hi.

Pavro is much more competent than me.
My two pens. First I will recommend to deactivate the repositories that have nothing to do with Sparky or Debian ( google , dropbox, microsoft etc). Man. pay attention with repos that are not part of Debian or Sparky. If you do not need them frequently j, deactivate them. I see that you have  different repos> Debian Testing also Debian Sid. I am not very sure if both needed.

Have a look here .

https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-upgrade-debian-9-stretch-to-debian-10-buster

Instead of sid you need to have buster . Just open Synaptic and replace Sid with Buster or ...

In terminal
sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list_backup

sudo sed -i 's/sid/buster/g' /etc/apt/sources.list

Best way to have the right reps....Download Sparky version 5.8 RC and put it in USB. Start computer with this Sparky Live USB. Open Synaptic and get the right repos from there.

I am actually waiting some days (till 06 July 2019 ), when the Debian 10 aka Buster will launched. Very fast I hope that Sparky 5.8 Final will launched.

Thank you pavroo. I will wait. I thought maybe I messed something up that may be preventing me from upgrading.

penguin, I have no idea how or why I added the other repos other than I probably was playing around with something and added them. I will remove them. Thank for the help.

I probably will just wait and maybe do a fresh install when buster is released and Sparkylinux 5.8 supports it.  Sparkylinux 5.7 has run flawlessly since I have installed it. : )

Posting the output of "inxi  -br"   will give us the basics of your machine and your repositories.  Use the # button to mark it up as code.

Testing does not work that way.  5.7 is testing and will be the same as 5.8 if you continue to upgrade.  In a few days you will have to decide if you wish to continue with testing as "Buster" will go stable and Bullseye will be the new testing.  And 5 days later you will start to see many many new packages come by.
Search forum for "More info easier via inxi"    If requested -  no inxi, no help for you by  me.

paxmark1,

Thank you for your reply.

Everything is working great with SparkyLinux 5.7. I just switched the desktop environment from the cinnamon to kde 5 and noticed I was using kde 5.14. I was trying to see why I did not have a way to upgrade to the kde plasma 5.16 and thought maybe it had to do with me running the Debian sid instead of the Debian buster release. I thought that I may have messed something up and broken my updates. It sounds to me that both buster and the KDE 5.16 are new releases though and not fully integrated yet into SparkyLinux but coming soon. I am ok with waiting.

sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list_backup

sudo sed -i 's/sid/buster/g' /etc/apt/sources.list

pretty sure the second command is wrong.  if it's wrong, then people are probably reading this thread wrong.  I think it's wrong because my sources.list didn't have the text 'sid'

Also, this thread is titled upgrade sparky-rolling.  So people need to make sure that they're not trying to use this thread to upgrade sparky-stable.

https://sparkylinux.org/forum/index.php/topic,4867.msg12987.html#msg12987  is how I upgraded.

I replied @Thomas. The post was for him.

I upgraded on this way :

Updating Sparky Linux with apt or apt-get results these days (2019 July) in error messages since the repositories containing the string "testing/updates" have changed their names. After replacing this string (file: /etc/apt/sources.list) with "testing-security" run

sudo apt update (NOT apt-get)

to accept further internal changes. Then run

sudo apt-get --fix-missing update

When this is done, you can use the apt resp. apt-get commands as usual.

By the way this solved another problem with the fwupd package since after upgrading a new version was installed which was able to update my Logitech Unifying Receiver's firmware (the old repository delivered v.1.2.5, the new one provides 1.2.10-1).

Thank you, xamaco!  I ran into this problem an hour before you posted, so your timing is much appreciated.
