WPS Office Suite

One of the Linux complaints that I often here is, “my work requires Microsoft Office, and Linux has no compatible similar software”.  That may have changed.  WPS (old name Kingsoft) is a relatively new Linux Office Suite that appears to be compatible with Microsoft Office:

I do not use office suites much, so I’m not the best tester, but “Writer” seems comfortable with .docx.   I have 64-bit Debian-based systems with Skype and Wine, and the 32-bit wps-office_9.1.0.4945~a16p3_i386.deb easily installed without drawing in any additional 32-bit libraries.  After installation, launchers for Writer, Spreadsheet and Presentation appeared in the office category of all dynamical menus.  It appears to take up about 60 MB.  There supposedly is a 64-bit Linux version just released.  Perhaps Sparky should consider including this suite in future editions, or at least making it available in the repository.

Libre office works without failure, but the letter typed somehow changes when opened in MS office - I never gave attention to it. You just have to save it in MS Office supported formats. If you save it in pdf then it will be same in any OS but you will have problems editing it!

I once installed Office 2007 in Sparkylinux using playonlinux and Only word and excel worked like a charm and everything else failed.

WPS Office for Linux is in Alpha stage.
It doesn't support the Open Document Format ODF.
I don't think there is any reason to replace LibreOffice for WPS.
If somebody really need it, it's quite easy to download and install the deb package.

The solution is here. I'm now hidden/limited forum moderator at ChaletOS and ChaletOS guy " Dejan Petrović " installed WPS office suite by default in his preliminary iso and later removed it from iso as it violates copyright laws and I posted the info on how to install it in here and on Chaletos.info -- forum too. The WPS office looks good and as pavroo said it doesn't support ODF --- format but it is said that it is a better MS Office alternative. If you want to install WPS Office then visit the below link.

WPS Office Suite can be installed (as well as OpenOffice and other well known office suites) via Sparky Aptus 0.2.10 now.
Please test it.

Yes I know that this is a very old thread, but want to add one thing. Have read somewhere that "Free Office" from Softmaker have very good MS compatibility when you have to deal with Word and Excel documents. I have not tried it myself though, Libre Office fills all my needs. Link for the curious below.

Well, let me also add to this old thread... I've tried both the SoftMaker "FreeOffice" and the KingSoft "WPS Office" for months... and the WPS Office is MUCH better.  Also faster than SoftMaker, and MUCH faster than LibreOffice.

DEEPIN LINUX includes WPS Office in it's ISO, or you can get the latest free version of WPS Office here:

They call it "A21" but it's over 2 years old now, and very stable.
