This is what I did for it to succeed in the "purge"

sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/google-chrome

I then re-installed from https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/

Looks like a failed download to me. Next time you get that you might want to delete the .deb file from /var/cache/apt/archives and try updating again. ;)

I got this error again.

Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/flashplayer-mozilla_11.2.202.424-dmo2_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I followed this

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/debian-26/sub-process-usr-bin-dpkg-returned-an-error-code-1-a-171107/

I had a similar problem and what i found that worked for me was going into /var/lib/dpkg/info and deleting everything that had that name and you may also have to go into /var/cache/apt/archives and do the same thing. I'm fairly new to linux so if this breaks anything i am sorry. i haven't run into any problems yet that this has caused.

First I deleted everything in /var/cache/apt/archives and got the same error

Then I deleted all file in both the directories

/var/cache/apt/archives

/var/lib/dpkg/info

and got the same error.

Is it because I use apt-fast and aria2 instead or apt-get?

Let me delete contents of those two directories and check using apt-get instead of apt-fast custom dist-upgrade script.

I deleted the contents of those two directories and instead of trying

sudo apt-get update && time sudo apt-fast dist-upgrade

I tried

sudo apt-get update && time sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

and it worked.

So aria2 download is causing some sort of problem. Any suggestion?

I don't think I can help here. I'm not used to using any alternative update tools. apt-get and apt-cache were always enough for me. ;)
