Title: Packages are missing
Post by: Splinx64 on November 23, 2024, 05:31:22 PM
Hi Sparky users,

I use the testing release of Sparky Linux 8.

Since last update some days ago I have the problem, that I can not install some programs, they I used before.
After the updating procedere they are not available in the database.

For instance, these are some of for me important programs:
GIMP
xsane
k3b

For examle, when I try to install GIMP, I get the following messages (translated):

$ sudo apt install gimp
Package gimp is not available, but is supported by another package
referenced. This can mean that the package is missing, that it has been replaced
or is only available from another source.

Error: There is no installation candidate for package "gimp".

Some months ago I have had a similar problem. But, in this case the reason were not suitable sources - in my case for "unstable". At that time I could solve the problem by removing these sources.

But, now, I think, my sources are up to date. In last months my system works without any problems. Here are my current sources.

Have you any idea to solve my problem?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Then, last September, they were removed from the repo (gimp & xsane) and aren't available:

And in the case of k3b, there is a significant dependency problem and it simply cannot be installed:

Well, I guess you must be patient and hope that the debian developers can solve those problems.

Hello AxL,
thank you for your answers.

Oh, what for news. In this case I only can wait, until new versions of desired programs are developed or/and habe found the way in the testing release, isn'it?

Yes, of course, there are alternatives, them I can use to this moment.

Have a good sunday evening!

If you look at the links to the bug reports, in my first post. Specifically in these two messages:

Thanks for your answer again.

Yes, using 'as Appimage' is an alternative solution to the time of fixing the problem.
But, I think, I will wait.

But nevertheless, thank you very much for the tips. Maybe, when I have enough time an the right feeling for this, I will see, what is to do.

Well, I'm glad you were able to solve one of your problems. (https://i.imgur.com/qZur36x.gif)

After a lot of years using SparkyLinux (testing/rolling). I am clear about two simple things. Always, have a good dose of patience (to wait for the problem resolution).

And most importantly, have absolute trust in all debian developers (in this particular case of k3b, Christian Marillat, from deb-multimedia aka dmo). And of course, also pavroo, as the lead developer of SparkyLinux.

Hi Sparkies,

in the meantime, since I discribed my problem first time, a lot of weeks have passed.

Unfortunately, Gimp and some other applications, like 'xsane', are not yet available. So I help myself with using 'pixeleditor' and 'simple-scan'. Of course, they are not so comfortable like my preferred programs. But, what should I do?

In any case, I whish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

See/write you soon.

Hello all,

for a lot of weeks GIMP is available gain, but I still miss xsane.

Does anybody of you know more about to find a solution or alternative. In this time I use simple-scan, but, of course, it is not so comfortable like xsane.

Or, where can I find a road map of integrating all missing applications into testing?

Thank you for your help again.

Sincerely.

I forgot to comment in the previous message that both alternatives install a lot of KDE6-dependent crap. (https://i.imgur.com/uzufRWR.gif)
So, keep that in mind.

Well, it seems that there is finally good news. (https://i.imgur.com/4GCd6.gif)

There is a new version (> xsane 0.999-12.2) in sid, that fixes the long-standing issue:

Hello Sparkies,
by now all missing packages are complete again, 'xsane' too.
In the meantime I've had some trouble between kernel 6.12... and nvidia drivers. So, I've had to use my last 6.11 kernel. But, this problem is also solved and my system works with kernel 6.12.12 and latest nvidia drivers. Unfortunately, in this moment I can't say, what version of nvidia drivers are installed.

Thank you all for help.

Have a nice weekend.

Best regards
