I had lots of problems with Cinnamon slowing down in various Linux OS's, and locking-up the OS, and freezing various other Linux OS's while I sorted and filed pix, so I dumped Cinnamon and switched to Mint Mate, is when all the problems vanished.. Cinnamon is a pain.. good on toast, in hot chocolate, and on raisin buns, but not in Linux...
Off the top I wonder if your OS has indelible active traces of cinnamon's nasty little demons in the system..? If it does you would probably want to reinstall the OS to 'SparkyLinux Plasma', then maybe all the irritations would likely vanish... I recommend the user play in a new install of Sparky Mate Plasma, make a lot of silly changes, totally destroying the OS having fun exploring new things, then reinstall it, and make all the right choices...

I'm seeing a lot of "Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.".. That warning should be neutralized, erased.. There are new users coming into the forum with those old problems new to them, and soon there will be a flood of new users dumping windows and the other Linux's in favor of switching to this amazing quality SparkyLinuxOS.. They'll be having all those old problems new to them.. Old problems don't die, they go on and on and on to pester, irritate, and anger others who bump into them... It's like how all the commercial cough syrups don't work on a covid cough, not at all.. I suffered three of the covid strains.. I fought my way through them, was a stretch!.. The only ting that eased the cough was the thousand year old ancient cough remedy, 'strong mint tea, lemon, and honey' in tiny sips. when needed.. Just because a complaint was registered 3-months ago doesn't mean it isn't a reoccurring problem for many newbies who are this very now dumping bully-windows in favor of switching to Linux... The newbies need all the advice they can get.. Microstuft is blocking Linux advice wherever it can..
Just sure don't pour mint tea and honey on the keyboard.. You would quickly discover that all the screamed cuss-words in the world won't fix it... Never leave have drink between you and the keyboard.. Been there, done that, had it happen, it destroyed my favorite dell notebook, but I have a stack of notebooks floor to touching the ceiling...

In experiencing silly unsolvable Linux troubles, maybe it's a good plan to have a few notebooks or towers with three different OS's.. One top-end special high-speed computer gaming OS exclusively for gaming, and another super high-quality secure OS like Sparky for your internet fun, and a third for your cyber hobbies like: pix editing, music editing and listening, video editing and viewing, and notes editing and filing.. Make it so the hobby data computer filing computer never ever gets connected to the internet, so your treasures are never ever exposed to the world's nasty bully hackers and WW3's pending cyber disasters.. I believe that very soon the warmongers, there are 60 of them, will slam the internet with a lot of state of the art malware.. Millions of good people could suddenly lose all their computer files in a flash..  Everyone should buy a high capacity external hard drive (or two), and save it as a backup with all your data in it, so when the kooks do kill the internet you don't lose your precious data, only an empty internet operating system, which is easily restored by reinstalling... Maybe a good plan is to make next week your: 'Backup My Precious Files Week'..  Be safe not sad and sorry...

TIP: If you have a bunch of spare blank DVD's, make SparkyLinuxMatePlasma install disks, and hand them out to people for free... This Sparky Linux is the best computer OS in the whole world for the internet.. Even the black-hat hackers can't touch it... I acquired 600 blank DVD's from garage sales for $9 total.. I'm making 100  Sparky install disks to give free to anyone I meet who wants to switch from windows to Linux...
$9. divided by 600, They cost me only a few pennies each.. DVD's are quickly going obsolete, people are dumping them for just pennies.. Many stores have discontinued selling them.. Be at the garage sales at 8:AM to get the best deals... Yesterday I got a huge state of the art very large very heavy gaming tower for $2 from a garage sale, full of the best SSD hard-drives, and the fastest ram.. The lady didn't know what it was that she was selling, all she knew was that it was old and obsolete.. That's equivalent to a $2000 computer.. It goes to the neighbor for free for his son's gaming...
Note: Flash-drives and CD's do Not make reliable backups... Dropping them can kill them... I saw a Linux install CD slip off the desk, and hit the floor on its edge, all its layers separated into thin flappy plastic..."Poof!" CD done dead'n gone instantly.. If that was my only back up I would have lost everything, now to all the way back to my W-95 files.. How would you feel if suddenly you lost ALL your files..? A  month ago a hacker bully did something to my netbook's music file.. Half the mp3's in the thousand tunes were somehow converted to text..
Not a problem.. I deleted the music file and the videos file, and uploaded it from a backup.. Problem gone and files restored in just 20-minutes...
Do so make back-ups, especially if you are experiencing computer problems.. Be safe, not sorry...
