sharing musescore over zoom
« on: May 05, 2021, 09:27:32 pm »
hello, i'm using musescore to share scores in a zoom meeting using sharing computer sound and it's very distorted and basicaly sounds terrible. This is for people to play along to with their instruments, so it needs to sound a least semi decent. I've used the same set up on windows and it works fine (Zoom / musescore) and my colleague is doing the same. However since i've switched to my current laptop with sparkylinux the sound quality has deteriorated. Is there something i need to do with sound on my laptop? it's a basic laptop (asus e420N) and i didn't use this actual laptop for sound sharing previously (but am no longer able to use the previous device). any tips would be welcome, as we take it turns to host & i've skipped this for several weeks now.

Post output of          "inxi -Ab"     Use the code button to mark it up.   example

Code: [Select]
inxi -A
Audio:     Device-1: Intel Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor HD Audio driver: snd_hda_intel
Device-2: Intel 8 Series/C220 Series High Definition Audio driver: snd_hda_intel
           Sound Server: ALSA v: k4.19.0-16-amd64

Am I correct that you have changed two variables, the first being a switch to a different laptop.   You do not state if it is a step down or a step up in quality  in memory, cpu and sound "card" specs.   Anytime that you change two variables, it is a more complex problem. And you have changed away from Windows (which version)    What version of musecore do you have?  What version of musescore did you have in windows.

https://packages.debian.org/sid/musescore

or

https://packages.debian.org/buster-backports/musescore3                   hint, big difference    You will need the backports version to get musecore3 if you are Sparky5

you are correct, that i have changed 2x variables.
The laptop is definitely a lesser version and i was on Win10.
Musescore version is the same on both 3.6.2.548021370.
Musescore plays fine when i run it as the program, it's only when i share over Zoom that it's very distorted.

I am just a hobbyist and since you are running the 3.6 version of musescore (which I have never used) I am all out of ideas.  Hopefully others might have some.  peace out
