Super problems

Rearching via biying or other search engine is the every first thing I did; as following these results, often caused promblems,  searched another advice, more messy, more worried. More issues. Consequently I were supposed to do ask for help with a heart concerned. Usually Debian forum shows the IP is blocked, so I have to post those here. Stable one is my initial system for my old enough PC( actually a notebook), I found some apps were slowing the system down,(initially apps like VLC, qbittorrent, firefox. I change VLC to smplayer, firefox to palemoon, but sometimes qbittorrent is OK, sometimes not). Since I can't change the PC, I guess maybe a newer, more efficient system will be well-advised.

Going back to your original question about using your PC to play files that are on your android phone.

Connect to your phone using MTP - this should pop up as an option on your phone when connect to the PC and it shows the USB notification.

Make sure you tell it to trust your computer.

Go to the media folder on the phone and select an mp3 file.
Right click and go to the Open with dialogue.
Pick your media player software - VLC or whatever.

Does it play?

Going to the basics, since you have multiple problems.

Comments.   Change to smplayer is good.   vlc has numerous dependencies that can complicate things.  There was a bit of a hiccup when Alf Gaida left the team, but they are back on track.   Alf had helped me numerous times on various things.
I would go back to firefox.   It takes a huge team to look out for all the security problems     -    There is a small chance that going to firefox will help you connectivity.
Your connectivity - your extremely slow internet is a grave concern.   Fixing it would be number one if it was my  system.  Reason for inxi -n flag.   If you know of or can find  local fellow linux users, they could give you ideas about the state of the internet in the country that you live in  and your isp.

A newer faster computer might not  fix all things.   If you have an I3 chip and 4 gb of memory, you can limp along.   8 gb and you should be o.k.  Posting the inxi -br will let us look at that.  -m flag.

Looking at the internet is different from looking at quality internet sources that you can trust.  You need to look closely at the date the info was posted, What Desktop environment they are using, etc. etc.  You need to be writing down these changes in a paper log book.      Are you using a VPN?

QuoteRearching via biying or other search engine is the every first thing I did; as following these results, often caused promblems,  searched another advice, more messy, more worried.

Bing is windows based, there are better search engines.   The key issue that I see is, did you do a lot of changes in the beginning that have your system tied up in knots, conflicts.   There is a term called a Franken-Debian.   If that has occured to you, that you have made so many radical changes from various times, sources, repositories, etc. that the only choice you have it to back up your /home/ and reinstall.

I wish you luck.

Search forum for "More info easier via inxi"    If requested -  no inxi, no help for you by  me.

First, the MTP issue. I did what you have told--connected and selected MTP mode; next, play mp3(video too) files on the phone. They can be played.

However, the slow web-browsing is not a great concern; the web-browsing is OK when browsing native(China) website. I did get the meaning of "flag". VPN seems illegal here.
I got it: if the system were chaos, I would reinstall the whole system. because my notebook is so old, that I did every thing to make it "greener", you will see that old one in the following:

Thank you for using inxi.

Sparky 6 is Bullseye - Testing - Rolling.   Stable is easier to start with, much less changes.    But,   in less than 60 days Bullseye is going into freeze.   So you will not be seeing as much change.   The main change you might see is programs disappearing.   They have had 18 months to prepare for next July ish 2020 when Bullseye goes stable.   Python 2 will be no more.

Internet, yes I forgot you can not use a Virtual Private Network - VPN.   Glad to hear that you browsing China wide does work.   Try

https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian

The binaries - programs listed are mostly from Debian.   The Debian wiki is a good first place to look for info.   I do not know how well it is updated in Chinese.
There are Chinese mirrors, they might be faster.

  https://www.debian.org/mirror/list.zh-cn.html

Pavroo maintains a Sparky kernel , numerous light gui addons especially for updating (aptus, etc.) and takes on requests for the occasional odd binary.

LXQT   is the right amount of QT 5 for me also.  I have run LXQT on Stable, testing and Sid-unstable on  an AMD C-50 netbox and on an Atom.  4GB memory should be ok.  TransmissionQT works well for me for torrents.   rtorrent on the command line is nice also, but it requires a little set up.

Congratulations, you do not have a bunch of other extra repositories.    If things are running well enough, just keep updating you computer several times a week, you are in testing.    Synaptic is nice for looking for things, but my opinion is that aptus is better for rolling-testing.  Future copncerns, please start a new thread.
Search forum for "More info easier via inxi"    If requested -  no inxi, no help for you by  me.

Why thanked me? I should thank you guys. This notebook is old with 1.67 RAM and old CPU, I had to look for an OS right for it. I tried those "for old PCs": lunbuntu,LXLE,Bodhi and the like, but sparky is best among them. Lubuntu and LXLE are fast too, for LXLE, after I had installed apps, they were hidden from the menu; for Lubuntu, sometimes complex chinese (instead of simplified chinese. Even English would be OK)appeared, which is annoying. OK, talk no more about it, thanks a lot.

QuoteWhen I browse this forum, it is super slow, usually take half an hour to open a new link. I live in China, I guess this may be the reason. If this problem can be resloved , I will appreciate that, if not, that's fine. Therefore I am writing more than one  problem and hopefully they may be resloved in one topic, or else I'll have to be super-patient multi-times.
You can use header editor addon in Frefox.
With the help of https://github.com/bhoppi/headereditor_rules, the forum can load fast in firefox.
------
add
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/bhoppi/headereditor_rules/master/headereditor.json
in download rules, "Import and Export".
then click "save" in the bottom.

然后点击底下的"保存"。

Mine is not firefox, yet palemoon may be similar. Your user name is a Chinese name. Ok, that's it: Hopefully I think I may rarelly browe the forum, since firstly the problems are getting fewer, secondly everything of the web-browing is OK, just  except this forum. And I would also be in the fear of  "To solve one, getting more ".

mdre808

Mr. Bin, it could be perfect if you resolved this "MTP" issue. I tried an old smart andriod phone with the choosed option "USB", as a result, the media can be played on PC. Tried with one or two new smart andriod phones, the result is what I have said. I have cut some media files to the PC, since the PC can play on itself. If all else fails, that would be the last resort.

Install mpg321 - it's a command line music player.
Use file manager to navigate to an mp3 file on the new android phone
Open terminal in that location - You're probably using pcmanfm-qt so I think that is under Tools - unless they've now got it under a right click menu item.
Use mpg321 to play the file - just type mpg321 filename.mp3
If it's a long name with spaces then it would be mpg321 "filename.mp3"

If that fails it should give an error message. My guess is file access permissions.

You can check by looking at the file properties via right click and compare permissions on old and new.

mdre808

Well, guess what? the terminal that can be opened with pcmanis any certain directory,  however, it cannot be shown with the new smart mtp phone, (still showed home directory)but the USB option old phone(which can player the media as well) can. As a result, after I did exactly what you told--No such file or directory appears as was expected.

bin

sudo apt install jmtpfs gphotofs

I have just had to re-install my system and realised I had forgotten to mention this. jmtpfs is needed on newer versions of Android to allow access.

When you plug in your USB cable select Transfer Files option and you should be able to access your media. I have transferred an mp4 file from PC to Media>Videos and it plays fine with VLC.

gphotofs helps with transferring photos as it mounts the phone like a camera card.

mdre808

Still did not work. The terminal was opened is not its directory, but a root directory instead, I guess maybe something wrong with its recognition: the MTP function cannot be recognize by the system. Sine I tried another new smart phone this time either, and I believe it is the PC's issue, not the phone's. Likely some missing software that tells "this is the path to find media to play". When not played, smplayer shows "exit code 2". Reinstalling the OS is not so good. I have tried a few linux OS and find sparky suits best . If there were one-button to "fix-it-all", that could be so good.

mdre808

dear Mr bin and lami07:
this mtp issue still cannot resolved, it is not a big problem though. I bet there must be some software need to be installed.
