Posting the output of
"inxi -br"
would be helpful.   Use the # button to mark up as code.  As always Ctl-Shift-C to copy from  a terminal.
Search forum for "More info easier via inxi"    If requested -  no inxi, no help for you by  me.

Video driver  - i915   pretty basic, should be no problem.  unloaded, check.
mine is i915 also Stable so my Mesa is older.
Graphics:
Device-1: Intel 4th Generation Core Processor Family
  Integrated Graphics
  driver: i915 v: kernel
  Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4 driver: modesetting
  unloaded: fbdev,vesa resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel Haswell v: 4.5 Mesa 18.3.6

Your Package: libgl1-mesa-dev (19.1.6-1)    matches the Debian package page for Buster.

1024 x 768 matches

Your repos are not way out, avant garde.

Only thing I can suggest is to see that you have not  filled /   (your root)   "df" would show that.

Anybody else have any ideas??

what will happen after the next kernel upgrade ?
now i have 3 kernel choices 5.2.0.3, 5.2.0.2 (not working) and 4.19 (working)
will the entry for kernel 4.19 be replaced with the new kernel ?   :'(
