Steam games won't launch

This is a problem I've also had with previous Linux installations and other games. I was lucky with my other games as they all run just fine.

When trying trying to launch, in this case Super Hexagon, it just prepares to launch and then does nothing afterwards except syncing my files to the cloud:

I also had that problem with Metro: Last Light on Point Linux.
Is it a problem that the game developer has to fix or is it client-side?

Anyone have any clue of what could be the problem?
Thanks in advance :-)

Hi. For starters try starting Steam in the terminal and try launching a game. With a little luck you should get some output in the terminal on why the game doesn't start.
There's no such thing as "impossible". :)

Uh, looks like we got some action from the terminal. This is my output:

libGL error: unable to load driver: radeonsi_dri.so
libGL error: driver pointer missing
libGL error: failed to load driver: radeonsi
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

Minor opcode of failed request:  3 (X_GLXCreateContext)

Serial number of failed request:  102
Current serial number in output stream:  103
Game removed: AppID 221640 "Super Hexagon", ProcID 20145

Looks like I'm missing some drivers for my GPU. Correct?

MoroS

That might not be the issue yet. What kind of graphics card do you have and which drivers are you using (open vs proprietary)?

I have an R9 290X. To be honest with you, I have no idea what drivers I'm using. Is there a way to check?

EDIT: I mean, I haven't installed AMD Catalyst or whatever.

MoroS

So you're probably using the open drivers. Post the output of lsmod and we'll see.

It's the open driver alright. This issue is pretty known already:

https://github.com/anyc/steam-overlay/issues/102
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-runtime/issues/13
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-runtime/issues/14

What you can try to do is to move the "libstdc++.so.6" and "libgcc_s.so.1" out of the "~/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/i386/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/" folder (back them up somewhere), restarting Steam and trying to run the game again.
There's no such thing as "impossible". :)

Thanks, I'll try it as soon as my other (sigh!) problem is fixed...
