Newbie questions / "testing" vs. "trixie" in sour...
Last post by pgf - September 04, 2024, 10:54:16 PM
Hi -- new user here, and new to "raw" debian, though I've been using linux for over 30 years, and Ubuntu for much of that time.  My question is just about debian release naming, I guess.

I installed Sparky because of the availability of the rolling release feature.  It's all installed okay, but I'm curious about the contents of sources.list.  I think I read that using "testing" as the tag would keep me permanently on testing, but using "trixie" would cause me to migrate to stable when trixie is...  frozen?

Can someone explain?

Last post by Rygor - September 04, 2024, 08:09:59 PM
Hi all, my first post on these forums. When I open up the app centre and log in all I get is an empty box.

This also happens with the "welcome box" . Any one any ideas please? (See image below)

General discussion / Re: Linux on Desktop is only i...
Last post by 151tom - September 02, 2024, 07:12:54 PM
It's cool that folks are using Linux.
I don't want Linux to become the choice of the home desktop.
Linux is fine just where it is imo.

The day Linux becomes the choice of the home desktop user will be the day Linux becomes just another polluted OS just as Windows OSs have become.

Please don't take my opinion wrong Windows OSs are great for the users who want to use them and needs to use them because of the Windows only software they may need to use.

My desktops are Frankenstein computers created from parts from discarded computers and none of the parts match and Linux works great for those computers.

Unlike some Linux users I have nothing against Microsoft Windows and have used Windows OSs for years prior to Windows XP EOL 2014.

Use what works best for what you use your computer for and are most comfortable using.

A great day to all.

Newbie questions / GameOver Edition 32-bit final
Last post by CirothUngol - August 29, 2024, 10:20:06 PM
Looking to install SparkyLinux GameOver Edition on an Optiplex GX260. What was the last 32-bit version released and where can I download it? I found a 32-bit v4.5 available on softpedia but I'm looking for the most recent one. Thanks in advance, I'm looking most forward to getting this 20-year-old monstrosity back online.

Edit: well, I followed the download link on softpedia and it led me to the SparkyLinux download links on sourceforge. It seems that the last 32-bit (i686) version is 5.0, v2.0 for i386.
