System upgrading / Problem when upgrading Sparky ...
Last post by paul74 - March 19, 2025, 09:42:27 AM
Hello,

I try to upgrade Sparky 8 installed since several months but not used for a long time.

On the terminal, I get :

pnp@pnp-k52jt:~$ sudo apt-get update
Ign :1 https://repo.sparkylinux.org core InRelease
Ign :2 https://repo.sparkylinux.org sisters InRelease
Err :3 http://deb.debian.org/debian trixie InRelease
  401  Unauthorized [IP : 192.168.1.250 80]
Err :4 http://security.debian.org/debian-security trixie-security/updates InRelease
  401  Unauthorized [IP : 192.168.1.250 80]
Err :5 http://deb-multimedia.org trixie InRelease
  401  Unauthorized [IP : 192.168.1.250 80]

I try different thing before opening this topic :

sudo cp /usr/share/keyrings/sparky.gpg.key /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/sparky-linux.asc

and then :

Change the GPG key in the source list:
sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/sparky.list

from:
signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/sparky.gpg.key

to:
signed-by=/etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/sparky-repo.asc

I also try to inactivate firewall.

But I still have the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Introduction / Hi everyone! It's Alive!

Hi guys, I just wanted to say I brought an old NEC Z1 back to life with Sparky. Yeah a 450mhz Pentium 3 upgraded with 512 megs of RAM. I use the machine to play Mp3s to a radio broadcaster to tune in to the right ambiance in my Fallout themed garage bar. Sparky is my new favorite distro for anything light on resources. I adore having CDE desktop as an option. The only thing I'd love to see for my nefarious purposes is to have TWIN desktop as a precompiled option in the No GUI distro. I'd been using BODHI on low end systems before, but Sparky fits my niche so much better. Heck I'm contemplating tossing it on a refurbed HP z820 with 512 GB or ram I just threw together from ebay because I still love that CDE aesthetic on the old super computer.

My Sparky sid now is one week young and i love it.
With only installed what i want in xfce it's elegant and fast.

Alongside my Sparky testing, that overlived my search for a working distro for my new
second hand machine, i tried siduction for a while. But i could not get warm with it.
It had not the performance like this i see now.

I am on board with Sparky now and very happy, my new machine is on the run...

Introduction / Sparky is it!

Hello Sparky Forums,
i'm not new to Linux, but new to Sparky. Some weeks ago i needed a new second hand computer,
tried several distris, but couldn't get the graphic properly to work. Then found Sparky and with it the
graphic does it.

Now i have Sparky in dual boot, one with 'testing' repos enabled, one with 'sid'. Both systems are running well and i'm very glad having my favorite setup back, i used for years.

Sparky really is easy to customize, a big thank you from my side for it!

Newbie questions / Systemback
Last post by jnwright - February 28, 2025, 10:15:29 PM
I'm using Sparky 7.6 Stable version.
I installed Systemback, ran it and selected 'Live System Create'.
I named the file mysparky.
It created the file mysparky.sblive in the home folder.
I then wrote mysparky.sblive to a USB drive using Live USB Creator.
Then I rebooted, pressing the key for the boot options menu
like I always do when booting to a live USB distro, but
the USB did not show up on the menu.

What did I do wrong ?
******************************************************************
EDIT:
Well, I overlooked the 'Write to target' selection.
I did that and it wrote mysparky.sblive to the USB.
Then, the USB was in the boot menu and it booted up.

But there was no option on the Desktop to install.
Do I need to need to install an installer to my Sparky OS
and then do another 'Live System Create'.

Then would I be able to use the installer on the live USB
to install the live USB to a hard drive ?
**********************************************************
I think that I have it worked out now.
I installed the Calamares installer (it shows in the menu as Sparky Installer)
I did the 'Live System Create' again, wrote it to a USB, and now
I am able to install the live USB to a drive.
So, all is well, works great !

AxL, I didn't see your post before.
Yes, 'xsane' works for a lot of days again.

Hello Sparkies,
by now all missing packages are complete again, 'xsane' too.
In the meantime I've had some trouble between kernel 6.12... and nvidia drivers. So, I've had to use my last 6.11 kernel. But, this problem is also solved and my system works with kernel 6.12.12 and latest nvidia drivers. Unfortunately, in this moment I can't say, what version of nvidia drivers are installed.

Thank you all for help.

Have a nice weekend.

Best regards
