Title: Sparky 8.1 Xfce lock screen not working [SOLVED]
Post by: 2zrfe18 on November 18, 2025, 08:54:47 PM
Hello

I have installed the latest stable xfce image on 2 separate laptops both about 6 years old with Ryzen 3500U.

in both cases the lock screen does not seem to function with either the designated hotkey or even clicking on the lock screen button in whisker menu.

I noticed xfce4-screensaver is not installed but I see in the autostart list a "sparky-lock"  not sure if it is related.

I can install a separate screensaver like xscreensaver, but I would prefer to just use the default with xfce.

I have also installed the MATE image and it's lock screen works normally.

BTW, I am very impressed with this distro overall and plan to use it on all my devices.  I just need to get this issue figured out for the xfce version.

Thanks@!

I found the solution from help on another forum

apparently I could not get xfce4-screensaver installed using sudo apt install, but sudo apt-get install installed it right away and the lock screen now functions as it should.

I am curious though why it isn't installed by default on the image
