Title: No background setting in MATE
Post by: Splinx64 on May 02, 2024, 12:29:58 PM
Hi Sparkies,

since my last update yesterday my set background wallpaper is lost. And, I cannot set a new one.

I have seen, that after the update the mate-control-center was deinstalled - I have had to reinstall it.
Now I can select an desired image, but it has no effect. I only have a gradient as background.
To set the background image via context menu on screen also doesn't work.

Other settings, such as window frames and fonts, work.

What can I do set my desired Background image? Is there another missing package? Have you any idea?

I use the Sparky testing release with a MATE desktop.

Thank you in advance for your help

Does no one have any idea?

Of course, in the meantime there were a lot of updates. But, I could not solve my problem.
I don't want to uninstall MATE and after them reinstall it again.

I think, there must be a solution.
What do you think?

Best regards.

Hello again,

of course, I also tried to change the background image with a few of gsettings and dconf write commands.
But, unfortunately, nothing of them helped.

How can I find, what is missing or not works?

Have you tried opening your wallpaper picture with 'eye of mate" picture viewer and clicking Image>Set as Desktop Background? See if that works.
