Title: Boot delay = hangs 5 minutes!
Post by: chrisl on October 02, 2017, 05:25:39 PM
Hi, I have run a number of Linux Distros, but this is a new one on me.

The laptop is a HP tc4400 Core2Duo, 4Gb ram, 128 Gb SSD.  I installed Sparky on the whole disk, no other OS on there. Installation of Sparky 64 bit LXDE seemed to go fine but when I boot it hangs with a totally blank screen, or a blank screen with a single line "_" top left.  At first I thought is was just failing boot up, but if I leave it alone, after about 5 minutes (timed it, not exaggerating) the Sparky OS comes up and seems OK.  I have done all the updates, system is up to date.

It is not just that the boot time is annoying, but obviously something is wrong and I want to fix it.  Not sure where to start, suggestions?

Chris

Wow, 5 minutes.
First - while you are waiting - can you get into a virtual terminal    i.e. Ctl-Alt-F1   ## log in as root.

man journalctl
man systemd-analyze

type systemd-analyze blame
type sudo journalctl -b -0    ## to examine present boot
sudo journalctl -b -1  ## to examine previous boot.
sudo journalctl -b -1 | grep ailed    ## shows Failed and failed
       sudo journalctl -b -1 | grep error

I had a glitch in Debian stable possibly with new dnsmask ( spelling?) security updates and it hosed my wireless on shutdown last night.

Lurk in #debian-next
