I have two computer: a macbook early 2008 (dual boot for now, can't leave caustic yet) and linuxmint + an asus eeepc. I really like the way sparkys ( looking for an xcfe installation) looks like and concept.

You do not need Florence to do so.
Run the command in a terminal emulator:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -f gnome keyboard-configuration
and set your keyboard settings, than re-login to your desktop to take effects.
