Not try with Sparky, that's Ubuntu example !
I don't see the way to try with Debian...

I tried adding deb urls and found out that it doesn't work for this distro so I simply deleted the source.d file and updated. There is no need to try this.

It's a desktop like LXDE or XFCE...

I have been running Evolve OS with Budgie for some months, also have Budgie installed from AUR on my Manjaro install.  Nice desktop.

I spoke with the developer Ikey Doherty on his forum and he suggested the only way for it on Debian was to compile from source...

I don't mind having Budgie in the Debian repos (Michael Hall from Canonical suggested to) but I don't particularly want
to maintain the packaging itself.

PS
I tried to installed Budgie on Debian from the PPA, but of course it was a no go with missing depends.

Might work on (Debian) testing, but would need to be compiled from git :)

I have compiled it on 32 bit system as well.
After a few small problems quick solved on the project's github page, I am gonna build debs.
The 32 bit desktop freeze down a few times, but 64 bit version works fine.

As I checked, the Budgie Desktop consumes:
- 32 bit version ~ 200 MB of RAM
- 64 bit version ~ 400 MB of RAM

An opinion is yours.

Does it run Gnome Shell or a derivative? I always found GnomeShell/Mutter to perform very poorly on my hardware. Otherwise, I like the look of it, it reminds me of google chome os.

Justin

It is not based on or derived from Gnome-panel. It's built entirely from scratch.

To install on Debian Jessie (needs this due to GTK requirements): https://evolve-os.com/wiki/Budgie/Install

Great job Justin! Runs like glass on a low end laptop with compositing enabled...quite an achievement  :)

Thank Ikey for that, not me. Great to hear though!
