Desktops / Date and Time are not synchron...
Last post by eye_sparkle - August 18, 2022, 02:18:32 AM

As I try the latest rolling release(version 7) with LXQt, the date and time seems not synchronizing after booting.

Internet connection is also good.

As I check the ntp process with the command:

sudo systemctl status ntp

The process is already running but still, the date and time are outdated.

Any workaround or fix for this?
System upgrading / Re: Upgrade LXQt to version 1....

Thank you. It worked and now my machine is running Sparky LXQt 1.1.0 after following the steps mentioned in that link. However, the RAM usage have increased to 420+ MB unlike in the previous/current release running LXQt 0.16.0 which only consumes 280 to 300+ MB of memory.

I hope that the next stable release will use LXQt 1.1.0 and with RAM usage down to 300+ MB or even lower if possible.

Noticed this error popping up frequently on Sparky MATE testing.

Needs xapp installed to clear it.

This great distro, SparkyLinux, have the software that I need including the complete LibreOffice Suite along with C and C++ compilers. All of these software are already included in the ISO image making these applications ready at hand after installing the live system to my computer. Hence, there's no need to manually install these programs from the command line.

To everyone involved in the development of SparkyLinux, I would say that all of you did a very good job.
Keep this up.

Please continue to include the said applications in every ISO release, whether it is stable or rolling.

Thank you.
Newbie questions / Semi-rolling in the future?
Last post by Katakuri2004 - August 14, 2022, 10:08:13 AM
I was curious as to whether this distribution would ever offer a semi-rolling version, similar to what Sparky Linux does with their semi-rolling version.
Let me know if you need assistance with a website; I might be able to help.
System upgrading / Upgrade LXQt to version 1.1.0
Last post by eye_sparkle - August 14, 2022, 09:47:23 AM

The LXQt team have released version 1.1.0 but the LXQt edition of SparkyLinux still runs version 0.16.0.

Is it possible to upgrade to 1.1.0? If it is, how?

Can you give an example? Where do you want to upload images? (I upload to sharing sites with a browser. Ftp/sftp would work in other cases. I drag/drop onto an NFS mounted drive. I assume there is some other use-case but I can't think what it would be.).

I suggest this.

Open Menu

Go to System Tools

Open APTus AppCenter

enter password

click Multimedia

click Codecs

look for libdvd-pkg and libdvdread

click on libdvd-pkg icon and follow the prompts to install

click on libdvdread icon and follow the prompts to install

when finished close windows and restart your computer and see if the DVD player/burner works.

To play a DVD you may have to open VLC media player and under Media select Open Disc and then click Play.

Hope this helps.

First: on Linux, there is no spoo.., uh, .EXE.
An application can have any name, provided it has the flag executable set.

On my (Mint XFCE 20) system,
$ apt-cache policy sigil
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.6.0+dfsg-1
  Version table:
     1.6.0+dfsg-1 500
        500 file:/var/lib/local-apt-repository ./ Packages
     1.4.3+dfsg-1 500
        500 file:/var/lib/local-apt-repository ./ Packages
     1.2.1+dfsg-2 500
        500 file:/var/lib/local-apt-repository ./ Packages
     1.1.0+dfsg-1 500
        500 focal/universe amd64 Packages
     0.9.18+dfsg-1 500
        500 file:/var/lib/local-apt-repository ./ Packages
     0.9.5+dfsg-0ubuntu1 500
        500 xenial/universe amd64 Packages

This means that the Sigil (and PageEdit) from repositories are somewhat old.
You do have to follow the instructions "Sigil on Linux" on

and, sorry to say so, download{$actual version}.tar.gz

and build it from source.
This has been indeed painless and successful for me up to now.
The resulting .deb file i either install directly with dpkg, or rather put it in my local repository, so that apt can see it after

sudo /usr/lib/local-apt-repository/rebuild -f

Maybe that's a MINT thing, though.

As for PageEdit,

Hope this helps.
