Title: Sparky 3.4.1. and Steam
Post by: Nekla on July 18, 2014, 07:03:42 PM
Hello,

I have installed Steam, and after starting Steam this message appears: OpenGL GLX context is not using direct rendering, which may cause performance problems.

For more information visit https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9938-EYZB-7457.
What  means this? Do I have to install any other GL driver? And which one is it?
Thank you for an answer.

Hi
Following the Steam support page do:
1. Install mesa-utils for i386:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install mesa-utils:i386

After that you run a diagnostic test:
glxinfo
Check on the top of the test results-> direct rendering: Yes (should be)

Check are you a part of 'video' group:
groups

Reinstall all video drivers - open Synaptic, refresh/reload it and find all packages starting by 'xserver-xorg-video-*'
Mark all the video installed packages and reinstall theme, then reboot your machine and check Steam again.

It what I can do.
If you still have a problem, please contact the Steam support.

Sorry, I have exactly done what you wrote, but Steam is showing the same message.
