Post by: 0day on March 13, 2016, 04:45:04 PM

Try:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

And if you have problems from a non-standard keyboard (Chicony kb for me was mapped weird)  - one can use "xev" to see exactly what the keyboard is outputting to X  "man xev"

I think that setxkbmap is only for graphical desktop environment. It's not a command for cli interface.

yes, you could, but have you re-configured keyboard-configuration to set it right?

i-ve tried with udo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration today, after the setxbmap it and now, before i did try anything else:
it automatically selects the italian layout, and now, after the configuration i still have the english layout....
