Title: [answered] apt-get update vs. synaptic refresh
Post by: toomanyquestions on July 08, 2015, 08:38:53 PM
What is the difference between running - sudo apt-get update and opening synaptic, clicking refresh, and then mark all updates. It seems one gets more updates using synaptic.
Does apt-get update address core system elements, while synaptic updates include various non-essential programs as well?

Synaptic Reload/Refresh = apt-get update
Synaptic mark all updates = apt-get dist-upgrade
apt-get upgrade updates only installed packages without installing extra dependencies if the packages need.
