Newbie questions / Re: SparkyLinux too slow
Last post by duststuff - May 03, 2024, 02:32:44 AM
A couple ideas to check out: Are your fstab entries correct? Is swap set up and enabled?

Someone may be able to help you if you provide more information. For instance, is this a new installation? If so, what was your installation process? Or was it a system that was working as expected and then started showing this behavior? If so, what things changed on your system leading up to this? Etc. ...

When you're looking for help on this or other similar forums, it would be good for you to include as much relevant information as possible. It's great that you mentioned the version of OS (i.e. Sparky here), but it might be helpful to also mention the window manager (WM) and/or desktop environment (DE) you're using. You can use the command-line tool 'inxi' and its various options to generate general / specific / relevant information about your system that you can then copy from the terminal (Shift + Ctrl + C) and paste into your post here using the code markers for easier readability. (Hover over the icons above where you're writing till you see the one marked 'Code', click on that and it should give you code markers like this: "code""/code" except with bracket markers in place of the quote markers. Then just paste the inxi output from the terminal between the code markers so it will show up correctly [you can use the preview option to check it's working as expected].) The 'inxi' tool has lots of different options -- here is just one example: 'inxi -Frz'. The '-F' option includes basic information for quite a few parts of your system, the '-r' option provides details on your repos, and the '-z' option filters out some things for privacy / security, which is probably a good idea when posting in public spaces like this forum.

Desktops / No background setting in MATE
Last post by Splinx64 - May 02, 2024, 12:29:58 PM
Hi Sparkies,

since my last update yesterday my set background wallpaper is lost. And, I cannot set a new one.

I have seen, that after the update the mate-control-center was deinstalled - I have had to reinstall it.
Now I can select an desired image, but it has no effect. I only have a gradient as background.
To set the background image via context menu on screen also doesn't work.

Other settings, such as window frames and fonts, work.

What can I do set my desired Background image? Is there another missing package? Have you any idea?

I use the Sparky testing release with a MATE desktop.

Thank you in advance for your help

Installation / Re: Grub 2.12 installation
Last post by rektal - April 30, 2024, 08:08:22 PM
I use [tab] to switch between option and use [spacebar] to select my disk.
But after that I can't boot up to my system.

I have to blocked grub-pc packages on version 2.06. And it works.

How to update from grub 2.06 to 2.12?

After that I have to use Timeshift to boot to reverse changes and boot up.
I can't handle it.

The problem solved itself. Today's update resolved the issue and the Discover feature was not removed.

I am using Muon as an alternative package manager.
The problem is that I use Sparky 8 KDE and I have to use Discover to update flatpak and snap apps.

There is alternative of plasma discover its called gnome-software.

Or synaptic manager sudo apt install synaptic-manger or synaptic.

If cannot be fixed use that for flatpak install gnome-software-flatpak for snap gnome-software-snap.

You need to wait for fixed that behavior of sparky.

Try also in synaptic manager force version.

Synaptic->settings->settings->distribution-> force distribution version something like that.

Then apply ok and update.

During update via Discover there is an info alert:
System package cannot be removed.
Nie można usunąć pakietu systemowego:

WARNING: You are trying to remove the following essential packages: libapt-pkg6.0 (due to apt) libext2fs2 (due to e2fsprogs)
