This afternoon, reading some threads on Siduction forum; I came across this interesting thread:Where a major change to the non-free repository is noted. And that is the creation of a new repository exclusively for the firmware, called 'non-free-firmware'.
(As explained in the above link)

Desktops / Password dialog for KDE wallet...
Last post by WetGeek - February 07, 2023, 05:26:00 PMI'm new to Sparky Plasma, but I've opted for KDE Plasma for many years, on every distro I've used. I've always enabled the "restore previous session" in the system settings, because I typically have about 8 applications running at the time I log off or reboot after an update. It's a significant inconvenience for them to require manual re-launching for each new session.
Sparky is the first distribution that has required me to create a certificate before enabling the KDE wallet, and since no one else has access to my computers, I've selelected the option that just requires a password instead.
Now, when I log on or reboot, the password dialog flashes on the screen, but is immediately covered up by the session applications that have been restored. It should have its "keep on top" property set, so that it remains accessible to the user until the password has been provided.
Even better would be for Sparky to include an encryption certificate so that the wallet can be enabled in the settings without any such drama, as other distros do. The KDE wallet is enabled by default for Sparky Plasma but connecting to a wi-fi source then requires either a cert or a password in order to continue.
The result of this bug is that a wi-fi connection is not restored, which causes numerous problems later.

If I run sparky xfce from a USB-pendrive (e.g. live mode thus no twisterUI) and take the same actions that you did then the window snapping is actually turned off for me.
Sorry, but I have no idea what could cause things to fail for you to such extend that it does not work the same on your setup.
Hopefully you are able to figure it out because I agree with you that the window snapping is annoying especially when you have your desktop full of windows and want some of those windows to move around (when space is cramped you often find yourself dragging a window to a snap position).

Desktops / Creating an action in CDE
Last post by ogis - February 07, 2023, 02:28:12 PMMost new CDE users struggle with running their own programs in a CDE environment. Of course, programs can also be run using the terminal (leaving them running in the background), but why not try running them from Personal Applications sub panel?
Lets get starting!
Yes, it is possible to add applications to the front panel. This can be done with the Create Action tool. The Create Action tool can be found in the Application Manager - Desktop Apps.
Double click Creation Action to begin. You can also type dtcreate in a terminal.
There are numerous options in Create Action. For this tutorial we'll keep it simple. We'll just create a icon we can add to the front panel that will launch Thunar. You can substitute "Thunar" for whatever application you want to create.
The first field is "Action Name (Icon Label)". This where you put the text you want to appear under the icon. It doesn't have to be "Thunar", it can be "File Manager" or "The Thing I Use To Surf The Files".
The second field is "Action Icons". These are just the icons for your icons, in various sizes that CDE needs to create a proper icon file for.
Icons can be found in one of three places:

Just download it, extract it and put in $HOME/.dt/icons folder.
In the next field type the name of the executable. In my case I type "thunar". The help text is option is optional. Do not worry about any other fields. The action is complete. Next save your action, click ok and close "Create Action". Your action will appear in your home directory. Open your home folder and you'll see your action.
You can test to see if your created action works by double clicking on the icon. Your appliction should start up. You can keep this action where ever you want, including on the desktop. Here is how you add it to the front panel.

Is there a setting somewhere that I can use to specify proportional text when entering a post, or should I just get used to it?

I've been a happy Solus OS user for more than five years, but about three weeks ago it went dark. No access to the forum, no access to the repositories, no way to get updates, and no idea what had happened.
Devil, over at the Siduction forum, told me that the Solus devs on Twitter were talking about a terrible accident of some kind that's taking them a long time to repair, but so far, that's all that I know about it.
While I was using Solus, I was the main contributor to a forum topic called "Other Interesting Distros," and wrote a lot of reviews of other interesting distros, based on VMs that I'd created. Two that had impressed me were Siduction and Sparky, both Debian-based.
So, I've been using Siduction Plasma on my daily-driver laptop for about three weeks and found it a reasonable replacement for Solus when configured the same way, with the same applications installed. And yesterday I installed Sparky 6.6 Plasma on another of my laptops, to give it a try for at least a while, and possibly much longer, if Solus never recovers.
I've discovered an inconvenient bug in Sparky that's annoying, but there's a workaround for it. It would be off-topic to complain about it here in my introduction, so after I've figured out this forum a little better, I'll search for a fix, and if I can't find anything, I'll look for an appropriate topic and post it there.
Speaking of getting used to the forum, is there any reason why I'm typing with a fixed-font? Is there any way to change it to proportional? Thanks for any help with that!

Last post by ogis - February 06, 2023, 07:33:56 PMSince Motif 2.3 it has been possible to use the XFT font renderer for Motif widgets, allowing anti-aliasing and greatly improving the visual display of fonts.
Whilst CDE doesn't yet use this, it is definitely an interesting option. This has not been well tested in CDE and is likely to have "issues".
