Title: sparkylinux install went wrong
Post by: twodogs on April 09, 2014, 01:15:50 AM
1)  I downloaded sparkylinux 3.3 64bit mate edition and put it on usb.
2)  I booted off of usb to sparkylinux desktop.  All looks good.
3)  I started the installer and jumped through the hoops.
4)  After the install, I rebooted and nothing.  Black screen.
5)  I restarted computer and began at step 3
6)  Still goes to black screen and no joy.
7)  I use a separate partition for /home.  It's gone.  Borked totally!
8)  Now, I am installing Mint.  My go to distro and best distro of all.

I have been using Linux for around 15 years and never had anything
like this happen to me.  I have installed Linux probably close to 100 times
and never had any problems with an install.  This is ridiculous.

I joined this forum just to make this post.  You'll probably delete this post
because I will never come back.

Bye.

Well, never say never.  I'm back.  I found this post and I honestly don't remember writing it.  I was stupid.

I have just installed Sparky Linux 4.3 LXDE and it's rockin'!

-Dave.

ease up there, I've had strange experiences with tuxes over the years (including mint & sparky) I get frustrated, I've screwed up.

sparky has failsafe installer prompts which tell you what is going on.

if you used YUMI as your boot USB then you are going to have problems.

3. you say jumped, maybe you rushed

maybe you formated /home to the wrong file system

my experience would tell me to beware of corrupt grub2 installations.

checklist. ask yourself did you install grub2 to drive or partition.

I have had sparky create weird grub.cfg entries (mismatched UUIDs)

sparky even has a boot loader repair, but you did not use it.

sad you did not save the system logs,

next time tar.gz /var/log

to help others help you

I am using sparky because of all the ignored bugs reports I've filed for many Mint variants on several machines over the years. Mint installs eventually die.

There is no record of anyone being nasty here, if you want nasty go talk to PClinuxOS.

Have you made sure to use no special characters or caps in username, real name and pc name? These only accept lowercase letters.
