Desktops / In Sparky XFCE power manager f...
Last post by Oulik - March 01, 2023, 09:53:35 AM
Hope you can help.

I have a weird problem.
When I boot up my laptop (with Sparky 7 Orion-Belt fully updated, XFCE edition) the power manager for display is not working most of the time. But when I go into power manager and disable and re-enable display power management again, then it works again until the next boot up.
So the display doesn't blank until I disable and re-enable display power management in the power manager

adding the monitor res to the boot parameter in the form of vga=788 (as I recall)
adding nomodeset to the boot parameter
no joy
Doh!

Somehow I posted this to the wrong forum; I intended to post it to the PCLOS forum.  My bad.

Hardware / Live graphic driver problem
Last post by measter - March 01, 2023, 01:12:41 AM
I haven't been able to solve this on my own. I've tried 3 different pclos .iso/s w/ the same problem; I'm trying to boot a live off Ventoy USB. The splash screen resolution is ok, but when I get to the desktop, whether it is KDE or Mate, my resolution is 800x600 and I can't fix it in the live.

I often use inxi to help me understand driver problems.  Here is the difference between a satisfactory LM Cinnamon live boot and an unsatisfactory pclos live boot:

LM Cinn:
$ inxi -G
Graphics:
Device-1: AMD RS880 [Radeon HD 4200] driver: radeon v: kernel
  Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.21.1.3 driver: X: loaded: ati,radeon
unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, vesa gpu: radeon resolution: 1366x768~60Hz
  OpenGL: renderer: AMD RS880 (DRM 2.50.0 / 5.15.0-56-generic LLVM 13.0.1)
    v: 3.3 Mesa 22.0.5

PCLOS KDE Darkstar 2023.01.30
$ inxi -G
Graphics:
 Device-1: AMD RS880 [Radeon HD 4200] driver: N/A
 Display: server: X.org v: 1.21.1.6 driver: N/A note: try sudo/root
   resolution: 800x600~75Hz
 API: OpenGL v: 4.5 Mesa 22.3.4 renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 14.0.6 128
   bits)

I see the note about try sudo/root but I don't know what to 'try'.

Newbie questions / Is There a Setting To Turn Aut...
Last post by myownsprky - February 28, 2023, 12:16:21 AM
Hello,

New to SparkyLinux.  When I installed SparkyLinux (currently on Sparky7 xfce), I chose to require password entry at start up. But there are times I may wish to have auto logon on.

Is there a setting somewhere in Sparky7to accomplish turning auto logon on and off?

If not, than how does one go about switching back and forth?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Introducing myself.  I just installed SparkyLinux today and am looking forward to using it.

I've tried other distros before and this looks like a very nice one.

Desktops / Lost login window
Last post by Changala - February 27, 2023, 04:04:46 PM
Running Sparky 6.6 on Asus laptop UX305FA (2014)
Have installed Sparky-Mini and LXDE on top of it.

Worked like a charm until I crashed it !
Playing around with Gnome-extension, I made a wrong setup...

It now automatically connects to Openbox.
When I disconnect/logout, I get the background picture, without any means of logging in again,
no window to enter user credentials, no drop-down menu to switch environment,
only way is to power off.

I have tried, with Aptus, to remove, then re-install LXDE, but still no way to switch environment,
no login window after logout.

Is there a way to bring back this login window ?

Thank you

Hardware / The right side of the display ...

The display is in a state where 80 dots from 1600 to 1680 on the right side are overwritten with black.

OS Ver
  sparkylinux-6.6-x86_64-lxqt

PC
  SONY VAIO VGC-JS90S
Main unit/dedicated display 20.1 inch wide integrated type
 Resolution: WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 dots
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD (built into chipset)

1.As a result of displaying with the following settings, the following phenomenon occurs.

 Phenomenon
[1600x1050_60.00] is normal operation and right side 80 dot black
[1680x1050_60.00] & [1680x1050_60.00] are overwritten with black for 80 dots on the right

 Settings
   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
   Section "Monitor"
       Identifier "LVDS-1"
       Modeline "1600x1050_60.00"  139.83  1600 1704 1872 2144  1050 1051 1054 1087  -HSync +Vsync

       SubSection "Display"
           Modes "1600x1050_60.00"
       EndSubSection
   EndSection
   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.[/var/log/Xorg.0.log] reports the following:
[   267.320] (II) intel(0): Not using mode "1680x1050_60.00" (exceeds panel dimensions)

3.Of course, Windows Vista displays in intel1680x1050 mode.

My guess is
The device settings for the panel (embedded LCD) are not normal and are displayed as "exceeds panel dimensions".

I tried various xrandr commands, but they did not work.
Is it possible to change the panel device driver?

Introduction / Former Puppy Linux User
Last post by sysstb - February 24, 2023, 01:19:16 PM
Hi
Just wanted to introduce myself. I worked in IT (Information Technology) for over 30 years; 15 yrs using "Puppy Linux" as my daily driver. I read an article on SparkyLinux a couple of days ago, and  thought I would give it a try. Everything just works; all my scripts, apps and AppImages, the latest Kernel (6.2), etc.
I'm hooked. Thank you
