I noticed in the suggested preference file no pin was set for unstable.  Why?

That preference file is for the stable version only, because it uses stable and testing repositories, so it must contain a rule for the packages of stable are more likely to install than the testing, but since most testing libraries can be used by stable, only those that cause conflict are hold at stable repository.

In the other hand, Sparky testing line has testing pin set to 1001 so the unstable get 500 anyway if you set it or not.
Sparky stable line has stable set to 1001, testing 900 so if you would like to use unstable repos on stable Sparky, it gest pin 500 anyway.
So the standard pin 500 doesn't make any change, and there is only sparky's kernel stored, nothing more.
