Newbie questions / can't go back to Sparkys grub
Last post by jnwright - May 05, 2025, 12:32:29 AM
I created another partition and installed a different os,
and of course, it installed its own grub.

But I want to go back to Sparkys grub, so I
booted back into Sparky from the other os grub.

Then I did a sudo grub-install /dev/sda
and then I did a sudo update-grub

Rebooted and the grub was still the other os grub

Then I tried the same thing, only this time
I did a sudo grub-install /dev/sda1
followed by sudo update-grub

Still the computer boots into the other os grub.

How do I get back to Sparkys grub ?

Hi there,

Great distro and having great fun running XFCE on my old Dell Laptop but there are a couple of things I'd like to share.

libre office isn't opening any files from Samba shares, to get it working I find uninstalling libre office, downloading the current version from the libreoffice website and reinstalling

I assume the libreoffice issue due to an older version being bundled with the distro?

I'm having to install GVFS* to get files to open on Samba shares

Apart from that - loving the snappyness of the distro - keep up the great work

Hello,
Long time computer hobbyist.  Started learning BASIC and COBOL in 1975.  Relative new to Linux, learning Red Hat in the mid-1990s.  Totally new to Sparky Linux.

I'm working through two issues with my new install.  The first is grub is not recognizing or "seeing" my Windows 10 install on what I had hoped would be a dual boot system.  The other issue is getting the semi-colon (;) symbol to stop filling any search box or document I have on the screen even though I'm not touching the keyboard. I'll check out the forum for possible solutions to both.

Cheers!

Simply adding xscreensaver, to the 'autostart' file of any of the WMs I use (fluxbox, openbox, sawfish... etc).

As always, I forgot to add the screenshot, to the damn message:

Cheers !!

Failed to enable unit: Unit file xscreensaver.service does not exist.

file exists, app is installed
/usr/lib/systemd/user  has service files

Please, review the manual:

For me, it works perfectly.

I wonder, what the hell your question has to do, with the original OP issue ...
