BTW, Have you tried reconfiguring system fonts yet

So, you can use the following commands to do so:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config

sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig

Introduction / How Do
Last post by Lanoviadesfreud - April 14, 2025, 06:22:33 PM
Hola a todos How Do
I am have been a news person, a housing tech, an English tutor for people entering the country, a general rabble rouser (had to check that spelling) and musician.
Using Linux of practically every variety I'm always checking out the new.  Thankfully it adds choice to the OS world.
It takes away a bit away from the oligarchy in a world which is increasingly...
Exactly that.  Seriously.  Does anyone remember the reason why we broke away from England?  Was it to become a democracy? Or a kingdom?  Ah, enough jokes for one day.
Take my president (king?), please!

Linux fulfills so many common sense needs.  I seem to remember my brother saying 'I don't need an operating system where I will have to go running to someone to figure everything out'.  Linux appears to be far easier in general to install with usually less need to seek out mysterious drivers and such. Updates usually don't take so long as to be leaving me pulling out the hair on my head wondering if my computer has stopped functioning all together.

Well, duh, I'm obviously playing to the right crowd to make such comments.

Anyway, on with the play!

Newbie questions / Re: How to install Wine?
Last post by jymm - April 07, 2025, 10:07:48 AM
I used play on linux and could not get it to work, then found this which made everything work fine. I suggest you use synaptic not the command line.

Solved
After a lot of frustration and reading tutorials that didn't work I found these in the Sparky repository.
wine32-preloader:i386
wine32:i386

While I have used Linux for about 15 years I am pretty new to semi-rolling releases and pretty much a GUI guy, but I took a chance of breaking the system and used synaptic to install < wine32-preloader:i386 >. I was then able to install and run < wxmp3gain-4.0-win32-setup.exe > with no problems. I then ran an upgrade and rebooted to make sure it didn't break the system, which is still fine.
