Good morning Pavroo,

Also Sparkylinux 8 XFCE version 2024.08 has the same blue button from where pops out the full screen; is there something to unistall to avoid this "extra step" before the full screen appears after logged in? Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards
Henry

Installation / Blue button before full screen
Last post by Henry1 - September 18, 2024, 06:26:34 PM
Hi Pavroo,

The version 7.4.1 and now the 7.5 Sparkylinux Orion belt XFCE shows a strange blue button on top left of the notebook (model Hp650) before I get the full screen right after I logged in, is it a bug? This doesn't happen with Sparkylinux 7.3 XFCE.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best Regards
Henry

To users with problems in this thread:

Can you check if applying this workaround (as solution), commented by this user in the GitHub thread solves your display problems ... ??

Thanks !!

Introduction / Hello! And Good Bye??
Last post by kjellinux - September 18, 2024, 01:37:35 AM
I'm on a quest to find out which are the best Linux distributions for giving old low spec computers a new life. In the process, I have tried many distributions and I have visited many user forums. In no other forum have I been as spitefully met as in this.

When I register to a forum, I read the rules. The rules of this forum aren't very different from most others. Let me quote parts of them.

"The main rule is: be polite, be helpful."

"We've All Been Green

We have all been a newbie to GNU/Linux. Some users are harder to help than others, but remain respectful.

Assume a user is green unless otherwise certain. Provide detailed instructions and avoid technical jargon, slang, and procedures we take for granted.

If you are unsure of your instructions, or the instructions carry a risk - tell the user this."

Given these rules, I was unpleasantly surprised over how I was met when I made my first post here in the forum. A distribution is never better than its forum. If the way I was met in my post is in any way indicative of what I can expect if I post again, I will certainly not stay for long. Neither will I be particularily prone to recommending Sparky Linux to anyone.

Today isn't your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either.

I don't remember me asking about your opinions. So, stop making a fool of yourself once and for all ...

Wow, this is sure one unfriendly user forum!

I'm testing various ditributions to find out which are best suited to give old low spec computers a new life. Doing so, I have spent a lot of time in different user forums. I have come to realize that the user forum is an important part of a distribution and how well it is suited for a person who is new to Linux.

After reading the comments above, I'll do my best to stay clear of the SparkyLinux Forums.

P.S. Oh, by the way, the simple 'workaround' didn't work...

Well, it seems to me that you have a problem with reading comprehension.

So, I'm going to put the direct quote from the user magpie514, explaining how to apply a simple 'workaround' to solve it:

Quote from: magpie514 commented Aug 28, 2024[....] seems it'll work normally if you use the environment variable WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1
 like WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 yad --html --uri="http:// localhost:8001" --browser --width=800 --height=600.
You could also export it in your profile, but I don't know if that can cause issues with other webkit applications. I recommend a wrapper for YAD instead.

Let's see, if you get it this time ...

Quote from: kjellinux on September 17, 2024, 07:39:21 PM[....]  When I tried opening APTus AppCenter a blank window flashed momentarily and disappeared again. Searching the forum, I understand that I'm not the first to encounter this problem. My question now is if there are any known plans to provide a fix for this problem, and if so, when a fix can be expected?
