Newbie questions / Move items on your dashboard
Last post by kellanphil - February 17, 2025, 05:39:12 AM
Hello everyone. I setup an old laptop as a streaming laptop connected to my TV and installed SparkyLinux on it. It works great! But... I am trying to figure out how I can move items (open window icons / tabs for lack of better term) on my panel, so that I can rearange them as I want. I can do this on my Desktop computer running MX LInux, and they're both Debian based and XFCE. Can someone help? I've been trying to figure this out for 2 hours now, I'm going nuts! LOL!
Thanks in advance!

Quote from: nemomen on October 22, 2024, 03:57:17 PMHello Sparkers,
does any person information, how the Microsoft Defender Endpoint for Linux works on SparkyLinux 7 Xfce Edition (or on any others from them)?
If any, which are the corner-points during installation and/or usage?
I had found many issues on the web, but almost all of them are learn.microsoft issues, so they are anything but not authentic for me. Over that they are citations, so not too much useful for me. E.g. I could not be sure, is it a free application or is it a must for pay for it anyway?
Thanks in advance for all responds.

I no longer see the formatting marks (those should be seen with CTRL+F10, this "¶" - CR+LF - to mean ), you only see the text limits on the page.

SparkyLinux 8 (Seven-Sisters)
Version: 24.8.4.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 480(Build:2)

why?

So, probably, in the next few days it will also be available in testing ....

Finally, xsane is NOW available in testing

Well, now you know what you have to do, use SolydXK. And stop advertising here another distro.

Quote from: Matej9 on February 07, 2025, 01:26:31 PM[....] F2FS is most innovate file system with specialization for PCs and laptops with SSD.

   Yes, surely it will:

Quote from:  ArchWiki [....]  Warning:
The data contained on F2FS partitions can become unusable if the kernel version on the running machine is older than the kernel version used to create the partition. For example, this limitation can manifest if the F2FS partition was created on a mainline kernel provided by linux yet the system has a need to downgrade to an older series of kernels provided by linux-lts.
[....]
Know Issues:
F2FS has a weak fsck that can lead to data loss in case of a sudden power loss ...

Quote from:  Wikipedia Note, that by default F2FS uses "posix" fsync scheme, which carries higher risks of leaving the file system in dirty state during unclean shutdown (as it does not guarantee atomicity of write operations) at the benefit of better performance.

Damn it lad, is so good that absolutely NO ONE uses it.

Well, it seems that there is finally good news.

There is a new version (> xsane 0.999-12.2) in sid, that fixes the long-standing issue:

  • Subject: Bug#1088080: fixed in xsane 0.999-12.2

I forgot to comment in the previous message that both alternatives install a lot of KDE6-dependent crap.
So, keep that in mind.
