Title: Install wobbles : no repo; boot flag not set (solved)
Post by: drknot on March 27, 2020, 10:17:57 PM
Hello.
Just found sparky - looks really good.
Reviving an Acer Aspire 2012WLMi with non-pae, 32 bit for my son for his personal use.
Tried 5.7 from a LinuxUser DVD - got a repo not found error. then a harddisc error : hard disc boot sector invalid
Lots of time downloading 5.10, burned ISO to DVD (no USB boot!) installed OK but then same error on trying to boot harddisc.
had used erase disc option for whole new partition

solution : start DVD in text mode = ran parted then fdisk as per :
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/343429/set-bootable-partition-command-line
boot option not set on harddisc - fdisk /dev/sda/; a; w; sorts it. now have a working laptop.
THANKS
