Newbie questions / GameOver Edition 32-bit final
Last post by CirothUngol - August 29, 2024, 10:20:06 PM
Looking to install SparkyLinux GameOver Edition on an Optiplex GX260. What was the last 32-bit version released and where can I download it? I found a 32-bit v4.5 available on softpedia but I'm looking for the most recent one. Thanks in advance, I'm looking most forward to getting this 20-year-old monstrosity back online.

Edit: well, I followed the download link on softpedia and it led me to the SparkyLinux download links on sourceforge. It seems that the last 32-bit (i686) version is 5.0, v2.0 for i386.

Plans for the future / Re: adding Irfanview to reposi...

Quote from: lukand on June 13, 2024, 01:26:53 PMWould it be possible to add irfanview It is included in PCLinuxOS, so why not to do the same for SparkyLinux?

I think I understand why you want a better image viewer.   I don't use one image viewer, I have to use several since none of them can replace things like Irfanview.

I currently use Mirage since it does sorting and slideshows,   lximage-qt for viewing webp images quickly. and tacentview for cropping screenshots.   also I use Feh, for quickly scrolling through images.

irfanview is packaged for easy install here: https://snapcraft.io/install/irfanview/ubuntu   I doubt that it will work really well, since it's a wine application and other parts of your system will not know about irfanview.

General discussion / Linux on Desktop is only incre...

Some good news.   Dzień dobry from Tennessee, USA.

This youtuber says 56-62 million desktops now run Linux.   :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPoQ3AyXpvo

Also SparkyLinux is so stable... I switched from Linux Mint 4.5 years ago... and then nothing happened.   My only repeat problem was sizing the /boot partition too small.

Last post by IoannisTsoulos - August 21, 2024, 08:24:35 AM
Dear all,
I have an OptiPlex 5480 AIO and I have install Sparky Linux 7 on it. The only problem that I have
is that the screen remains blank after suspending and the only option is to make a hard reset. The graphics card is Mesa Intel UHD Graphics 630. How can I solve this problem?

best regards
Giannis

Installation / login/startx suddenly stopped ...
Last post by japprends - August 19, 2024, 06:35:34 PM
Hi,

I am running a roughly 2 year old version of Sparky LXQT.  I switched to another computer for that duration and then came back.  It ran fine for a couple weeks, then suddenly when I tried to boot into it (with an auto-login), it aborts and puts me at a Debian login screen.  When I enter my login credentials, nothing happens.

As far as I know, I made no changes to the system -- no updates, no network configuration changes, etc., just normal use.

I can go to a virtual terminal (e.g., Control-Alt-F6) and run startx which brings up a completely black screen.  All of my openbox/LXQT keyboard shortcuts work so I can readily start applications but there is no background picture, not task bar, no start button, etc.

I don't see anything suspicious in the output from dmesg.  I am not sure what to look for in Xorg.0.log and am attaching it below.

I'd appreciate any help in getting back to normal functioning!

Thanks,
Rick

You can do this using XScreensaver:

  • Open a terminal and type xscreensaver-settings

  • In the 'Display Modes' tab at the bottom left:

You have the 'Lock Screen After' section where you can modify / extend / cancel using the option you are interested in.
