Newbie questions / Re: Blank and auto log in
Last post by mdre808 - September 12, 2023, 01:12:47 PM
Today, I shall told a joke of myself. I pressed alt ctr t to open a terminal, but nothing happened.  I checked shortcut keys and made it defaulted, still, the issue reminded. Suddenly I saw this USB keyboard had not connected to the note book, so what a careless one I am! owing to defaulted setting, I saw alt ctr t combination was omitted. How could it come back?

Here's something I'd like to see in Sparky, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate, because it lacks a maintainer:
qpdfview-pdf-mupdf-plugin
Reason: it allows qpdfview to open epub files, while I'm struggling to find another lightweight ebook reader.
Unfortunately, as discussed in a bug report, the plugin is regarded as experimental due to the lack of a maintainer – as such, it's been removed from Debian Bullseye.

That will bring the next problem. The blank issue is resolved, but after I closed the lid for a while, the note book suspended or slept : no more just turns off the monitor as before.

You're welcome !!

Desktops / {SOLVED} login screen fault
Last post by transadd - September 10, 2023, 05:07:47 PM
Hi
Running Sparky seven having run Sparky six for a considerable time with no problems on the same computer.
At the login screen if I do not type my password quickly the display is trashed.
I can still continue to type my password and the system will login.
Everything  works as normal when logged in so this is not a problem, but it does not look good if I am showing somebody else Sparky.

Regards john

Since starting this I have noticed one or two other distros give an odd flash when booting although not as persistent. I assume therefore It may be a problem with my video board and therefore have marked as SOLVED.

Thanks to all those who took the time to read topic.

Regards john

Suggestions / Aptus Upgrade: show the number...
Last post by Gnomasz - September 05, 2023, 06:05:24 PM
Currently, the number of packages to be upgraded, newly installed or removed by sparky-aptus-upgrade is only shown to the user if they select the "changelist" option. This creates a risk that the user will unknowingly remove a package. Although very rarely, this can have dire consequences, e.g. like when Linus from LTT removed his entire DE while installing Steam, because there was an error in dependencies.

Suggestion
Add the apt information about the number of packages to be upgraded, newly installed, removed or not upgraded to the main System Upgrade screen. Ideally, if there are packages to be removed, display their names automatically.

Mockup
Underlined is my addition.

System Upgrade
Need to get 760 kB of archives.
After this operation, 31,7 kB disk space will be freed.
↑ 12 packages will be upgraded,
+ 0 newly installed,
- 0 removed,
and 0 not upgraded.

Upgrade the system now?

System upgrading / Re: No sound after recent Spar...

Fixed:

Edit /etc/pulse/default.pa
Comment-out this line:
load-module module-suspend-on-idle

pulseaudio --kill
pulseaudio --start

I have sound again. That was a pretty obscure issue. I have no idea why it was triggered by a system upgrade.

System upgrading / No sound after recent Sparky 8...
Last post by Bill Statler - September 03, 2023, 06:26:22 AM
I'm running Sparky 8 with MATE.

I did a normal system upgrade on 2023-08-27. Ever since, I haven't been able to get any sound from my system, no matter what I do with the sound preferences in mate-volume-control.

I have tried to figure out which upgraded package might have caused the problem. I believe the kernel was updated from linux-image-6.4.7-1-sparky8-amd64 to 6.4.12-1. And libasound2 was updated from 1.2.9-1 to 1.2.9-2.

I don't see any other upgraded packages that look like they're related to sound.

Two more system upgrades and reboots didn't solve the problem.

Right now, I'm just wondering if I am the only person who has this problem, or whether someone else has solved it and saved me a lot of work!

Thanks...

Quote from: Henry1 on September 02, 2023, 01:11:12 PMHi Pavroo,

While trying to update the package list, I got this warning:

W: https://repo.skype.com/deb/dists/stable/InRelease: Key is stored in legacy trusted.gpg keyring (/etc/apt/trusted.gpg), see the DEPRECATION section in apt-key(8) for details.

Do I have to ignore it?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Henry
