Introduction / Sparky password issue
Last post by Linuxfan - February 11, 2026, 04:31:03 AM
Having issues with using a password that I want for sparky. Had Sparky on one of my desktops for years and had no problems. It died and tried to install sparky on another and the password part said "too many letters, too simple", etc.  Why can't I pick whatever password I want. This reminds me of using windows. Their way or nothing. How can I use the password and length that I want on my computer. Never had this issue with any other linux OS. Any help?

Installation / Any known problem installing S...
Last post by paul74 - February 05, 2026, 02:36:29 PM
Hello,

I have  a Toshiba Satellite Pro S500-10D (originally delivered with Windows 7), upgrated to 8 GB RAM and 240 GB SSD,   running SparkyLinux 7.8 for a while without any problem.
As i had some problems to upgrade to SparkyLinux 8 via usual process, I decided to install SparkyLinux 8.1.

Installation process rans fine. Without any message.

But as I restart the PC, I get the message "no system disk".

I start another Linux system contained on RescueZilla USB key to try to determine the source of the problem.
I see that the mount point specified for SSD is "/media/Ubuntu" ???????

To be sure my SSD is OK, I restarted SparkyLinux 7 preiously saved onto external disk. Everything working fine !

I also tried to install SparkyLinux 9 and get same problem.

Forgotten something ?
No legacy support anymore ??

Thanks in advance for your ideas and comments.
Have a nice day.

Sparky applications / Empty Firefox-Sparky Package
Last post by Mémé - February 02, 2026, 05:55:45 PM
While Pavroo said "firefox-sparky" was replaced by "firefox-latest", it seems not to be my case...
"firefox-sparky (147.0.2~repack0)" has been updated to "firefox-sparky (147.0.2~repack2)",
BUT this package is empty, and Firefox-Sparky disappears.
Previous package (147.0.2~repack0) can't be reinstalled, neither "firefox-latest", that can't be found.
Any solution?
Maybe update the "147.0.2~repack2" package?
Thank you in advance!

Applications / Firefox latest

The 'firefox-sparky' package changed its name to 'firefox-latest'.

It uses new profile so make sure you have backup of your settings to restore it after installing new package.

General discussion / Re: Good reviews && Bad review...
Last post by AxL - January 12, 2026, 10:24:09 PM

By the way, I forgot to comment that I have searched the internet (using DDG or StartPage) for the problem described by the individual from DistroWatch. And I have found absolutely NOTHING about it.

And there is also no report (of this matter) here, on the SparkyLinux forums.

So, I think that this lad's problem, seems to be the typical PICNIC.

Cheers !!

General discussion / Good reviews && Bad reviews .....
Last post by AxL - January 12, 2026, 06:55:29 PM

Good times && Bad times ....

Curiously, almost on the same dates. I have been able to read an excellent review of SparkyLinux, as well as another totally disastrous review.

The first of them was published on January 1 (with reference to his article of last July tenth, 2025). A concise, serious, detailed and exhaustive review.
And, where he finally comments that using SparkyLinux was an almost perfect experience.

And OTOH, this one made by Jesse Smith of DistroWatch (using an outdated version - SparkyLinux 2025.09 running CDE) where he ends by saying that the newly installed distribution cannot boot.

Specifically, it ends with this paragraph:

Quote[....]
After a few minutes of working, Calamares reported it had successfully completed the installation and offered to restart the computer. Unfortunately, the freshly installed distribution failed to boot. In fact, a closer look at the disk indicated a boot loader had not been set up, rendering the machine unbootable.

Anyway.... for tastes, colors.

Cheers !!
