Installation / Password requirements just to ...
Last post by nevertheless - October 24, 2025, 05:25:15 PM
I've used sparky before, and wanted to install the latest stable. I couldn't proceed past a certain point where it was forcing me to choose a password that is well beyond the sufficiently-obfuscated password I needed to use for what I'm doing.

I don't recall it being like that before. This felt very unwelcome, burdensome. I tried 3-4, and then gave up because I wasn't going to go find a pen and piece of paper to write down whatever I was being forced to concoct just to install the OS for a few days to look around, see how it is today.

I strongly encourage that this hurdle be turned off. Let people do what they want to do. No other distro does this (that I've seen. I recall Linux Lite doing it a number of years ago. I think it was an option that was enabled, and they didn't realize it. Hopefully this was a similar mistake.). I'm all for better passwords, but not forced on me.

Installation / No password prompt
Last post by LanceHaverkamp - October 24, 2025, 02:31:24 AM
First-time Sparky install, twenty-sixth year as a Linux-only Desktop user.

After installing an encrypted system, the user is never prompted for the decryption password—well, in reality the prompt is probably just hidden under the SparkyLinux splash screen...but that shouldn't happen. Having encrypted installs for years, I know when to just type it, without a prompt; but a newer user won't have a clue.

Thanks,
Lance

I dont know your machine configuration, but it happens if you have 64 CPU and 32 bit UEFI.

Installation / Trouble installing 8.0.1

Hello,

Anyone having trouble installing this 8.0.1 version?

It gets all the way to the end. And then blows up with grub-install error.

Deutsch / Passwort Anforderungen ändern
Last post by pamibo - October 03, 2025, 01:56:45 PM
Hallo,

Paule
