Title: Hello everyone, nice to meet you.
Post by: AndyInMokum on February 26, 2016, 03:50:02 AM
Hello everyone and greetings from a wet and cold Amsterdam.  I've been using Linux for just under 3 years.  I started off with using LMDE, I'm a little adventurous, so I had to have a go with Debian Testing.  I then migrated to the mighty Crunchbang because I wanted some Openbox experience.  I miss Crunchbang  :'(.  BunsenLabs is nice, it ain't the same though.  I then discovered Peppermint OS  :D.  I have been using this for two years and it's still my prime distro and will be for the foreseeable future.

I recently purchased a second hand laptop, a Dell Latitude e6410 Core i5 560M @ 2.67GHZ.  It came loaded with 4GB of RAM and a 160GB HHD.  It was time for some upgrading fun  :P.  I swapped out the 160GB HDD for a Western Digital Blue 1TB HDD.  The  DVD/CD drive had been swapped out for a hard drive caddy that's been loaded with a Kingston 120GB SSD.  The SSD is a 3 distro multi-boot drive and the 1GB HDD is a dedicated /DATA drive.  It's symlinked to the /home folders on all three distros.  The SSD has been tweaked and optimized for this machine.  The RAM has been upgraded to the full 8GB.  Needless to say, this machine now goes like a high octane dragster; even with LMDE 2 "Betsy" 64-bit Cinnamon, my third distro.  So you can see, I've a computer I can really play with and enjoy multiple distros.  Here's the output from my inxi -F:andy@sparky-latitude-e6410:~$ inxi -F

I've always been curious about SparkyLinux because I like the bleeding edge packages Debian Testing offers and the corresponding challenges.  So far, I'm really very impressed, kudos to the developers on a great job.  It's much better than going through the hassle of installing Debian and doing it all yourself.  Someone else has done the heavy lifting.  I can get on with using it and maintaining it.  I hope to be around for some time because I'm really enjoying the experience.  Hopefully, I can learn from you guys and I'll help out when I can too.  I have a Fujitsu Siemens AMILO Li3710 Notebook that's looking like a good candidate for SparkyLinux as a single boot machine  ;).
