Introduction / Enter in SparkyLinux
Last post by budking - Today at 02:27:24 AM
Amigo Sparky Galaxy,

High, I enter in.

Sparky Linux is finally something that really works for me.
It's exactly how I imagine Linux and it's exactly how I need it.
Finally I found what I got. I come to stay with that.

I love it.

History: Windows -> Ubuntu -> Zorin -> Debian -> Tails -> finally Sparky Linux with my necessary experience

Experience:
(OPNsense: [ Unbound DNS (+Adguard-DNS io over TLS/https), Ngnix, FreeRadius, OpenDNS], ProtonVPN, Wireshark, Coreboot, Librewolf with Addon [CanvasBlocker, Chamelon, Decentraleyes, DuckDuckGo Essintials/Safe,  I don't care about cookies, AdGuard Extra, uBlock], Tor Browser, Invidious io (example FreeTube)

In memory to my cat calls Spakie.

Greetings to all Sparky people

Kind Regards,
Budking

Installation / CODECS Error
Last post by RetiredIT - September 30, 2023, 04:44:29 PM
I followed your procedure here (https://sparkylinux.org/sparky-codecs-installer) to install codecs. But I'm still getting this error when trying to view a streaming video online. However, Youtube does work OK:

"This video file cannot be played. (Error Code: 102630)"

Any ideas? Thanks.

Newbie questions / Update time quicker?
Last post by sparkypuzzler - September 26, 2023, 01:30:53 AM
I have been using the standard install for a Pi, and it is updated regularly.

Is there a way to make the time update be performed earlier in the boot process?

On demand, my Pi systems boot into a special site that has a real time comparison display system, and until the update is done the error gives incorrect timings.  I don't want to install a RTC battery system. The errors immediately resolve once the update is done, but this can be a few minutes of delay.

It would be much better if the actual time update process could be done earlier, but I don't have enough knowledge to get this happening...if it is possible at all.  From observation it seems to be done as part of the desktop system, but if it could be done as part of the basic boot process once WAN is established that would be better. Again...it might be doing this anyway!  I don't know!

Thoughts please, and thanks!

cheers

Newbie questions / Re: Pi 4 B Autostart location?
Last post by sparkypuzzler - September 26, 2023, 01:18:19 AM
In doing another post on the forum I realised I hadn't put up the solution to this question, sorry...., so here it is:

In my case to run Chrome as autostart it has to be in /home/pi/.config/openbox/autostart.sh

The actual directions were just put at the bottom of everything else in that autostart file. It is also worth noting for newbies that chrome is actually "chromium-browser". In my case I am running kiosk mode so it ended up as this to start into a particular site:

/usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser --kiosk --app=https://blah blah

cheers

Hold on, I am not sure, where you have to put your password?
To access some applications, terminal emulator or lock screen?
