i have sparky xfce version installed. everything was working fine, until i had to reboot. sparky does not boot up, sometimes it just hangs, other times i get to a terminal prompt flashing cursor, but no display
i am on a fujitsu amd laptop, with debian wheezy installed as a dual boot, that gives me grub, as this machine refuses to boot on grub 2
thank you

When I did a fresh install of Sparkylinux on my desktop I assigned 30 GB for root, 4 GB for swap and rest of the harddisk for Home and it didn't boot and I didn't understand what to do and, I ended up trying other things like reinstall etc; then I found the solution on the internet.
Actually there were quiet a few solutions and they were annoying. The best solution is to boot with the live cd/dvd/usb and run Boot Repair tool available on the iso image.
It was easy and there were no more problems. All done.
Also uninstall plymouth to improve shutdown and reboot and login performance/time.

booted from the live usb, ran boot-repair
unfort that made the situation worse, now it does not even get to the grub screen, it just shuts down prior to that
what do i do now ?

I think pavroo or someone else can help you. Not me, definitely I'm not the guy equipped with knowledge to help you. Sorry friend.
I suggest to reinstall the system.
I a case of problem with booting after the system upgrading if the Grub works fine, run the system in rescue mode and check/try to fix broken/not upgraded packages:
sudo apt-get install -f
sudo dpkg --configure -a
thank you, am resitalling rite now, will let you know how it goes

reinstalled, worked for a while. safe upgraded the system
rebooted a while later
loading kernel , please wait

tried booting up in recovery mode
4.4708721 drm_kms_helper: panic occured, switching back to text console

I will make a fresh install it on my machine and I will have a look.
It's not normal.
How did you do the upgrade? via Synaptic, Sparky APTus or manually using commands in a terminal emulator?
both ways, sparkyAPTus, and repository
fresh reinstall worked fine a while ago, but on second reboot went back to same message "cannot access tty"
appreciate your help, somehow this amd cpu and linux is a bad fit

by the way, does not need a system update/upgrade to get to a non bootable situation. any change to system and a reboot will make it unable to boot up. for now, i will just not shut the computer down

I am installing it now.
But if you decide to reinstall it again don't use APTus for the first upgrading.
I looks like it can't upgrade something and stop working.
So if you just reboot after broken upgrading you loosing access to the system.
After installing sparky run upgrading in a terminal emulator as follow:
sudo su
(you don't need to type sudo every time)
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
Then check is everything upgraded well:
apt-get install -f
dpkg --configure -a
If nothing to fix just reboot, but not before checking as above.
if you use APTus and you are not sure is everything upgraded OK, simply go to "Fix Broken' tab and run both two options one after one.
They runs commands to check as above.
So even without upgrading you can't reboot?
Is it 32 or 64 bit version?
tks, for now, things are working, so i not gg to test my luck with a reboot unless forced to
will be back later if i do it, and run into problems,...
tks for your help
is the amd 64 version
