Newbie questions / Internet connection dropped af...
Last post by Franken7 - May 08, 2025, 04:01:46 PM
I am posting this under "Newbie questions" because, although I've using Linux for about ten years, I was never proficient in using the command line or installing "standalone" packages.

My internet connection will drop after using it for an hour or more. In the past, I've used Ubuntu, AntiX, Debian, and MX Linux.  I've had this problem with all of the Debian based distros.

I'm using a Dell Latitude D630 with 8GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD.  I use the Ethernet connection because its 3X faster than the built-in WIFI.

The temporary solution is re-booting when the connection is dropped.  However, it's annoying if I'm in the middle of something and I have to start over.

Where do I begin to solve this issue?  Thanks!

Newbie questions / can't go back to Sparkys grub
Last post by jnwright - May 05, 2025, 12:32:29 AM
I created another partition and installed a different os,
and of course, it installed its own grub.

But I want to go back to Sparkys grub, so I
booted back into Sparky from the other os grub.

Then I did a sudo grub-install /dev/sda
and then I did a sudo update-grub

Rebooted and the grub was still the other os grub

Then I tried the same thing, only this time
I did a sudo grub-install /dev/sda1
followed by sudo update-grub

Still the computer boots into the other os grub.

How do I get back to Sparkys grub ?

Hi there,

Great distro and having great fun running XFCE on my old Dell Laptop but there are a couple of things I'd like to share.

libre office isn't opening any files from Samba shares, to get it working I find uninstalling libre office, downloading the current version from the libreoffice website and reinstalling

I assume the libreoffice issue due to an older version being bundled with the distro?

I'm having to install GVFS* to get files to open on Samba shares

Apart from that - loving the snappyness of the distro - keep up the great work

I cloned a desktop file in autostart, and modified it. Will try that
