I got this problem again installing 7.5 so it is still an issue I've just been through the process of tracking down why anacron wasn't running any of my cron.daily jobs and found the  symbolic link to /bin/true. Only after doing this did I remember I went through this earlier this year. I've slept since then and I  got my bus pass this year!

I should have looked on here first.

I have put it in my install check list notes along with /etc/default/grub having GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false, so other (dual boot) OS are not discovered.

Hi Sparkies,

in the meantime, since I discribed my problem first time, a lot of weeks have passed.

Unfortunately, Gimp and some other applications, like 'xsane', are not yet available. So I help myself with using 'pixeleditor' and 'simple-scan'. Of course, they are not so comfortable like my preferred programs. But, what should I do?

Check if os-prober is disabled be default. That has been done as a security measure.

Add/edit the following line to your /etc/default/grub file, then run update-grub.

 
Change:

GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true

to:

 GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false

then update grub.

Or go offline to print. You can't hack without access. Shutting down wifi or pulling your wired lan cord would prevent hacking while you print.

I think it is great distro. It is about the only rolling release I have used without it breaking on an update some software I needed so became a deal breaker. That said desktops make a difference.I have not had any major problems with it.

I use the Mate desktop which has the same battery issue. It seems to be a Mate problem, and I have had the same problem on Ubuntu Mate, Mint Mate, Parrot Mate, Spiral Linux and here on Sparky Mate. the regular icon doesn't give you a value unless click on it, and the added applet keeps not loading or crashing.

The only one I know that has solved that is Ubuntu Mate, which now uses Ayantana indicators. You can use dconf to set the battery to display percentage, time or both on the panel.

I can't answer for the Xfce, KDE, or LXQt as I only use the Mate desktop. As you can see though, the forum is extremely quiet. I am not sure if that is the Distro is so solid or if  there are just not that many users.
That said you could always get help on the Debian forum for most problems if you can't find it here, it is pretty solidly Debian with some nice different features. Your experience level might determine if this is the distro for you or not.

Hi folks,

I could'nt find any sources for the kernel-version '6.6.66-sparky-lts66-amd64'.

Is it just an unpatched mainline kernel with customised version-string or have I missed something?
