Installation / RIL8188SU doesn't work after i...

Hi,

I've just installed Sparky 8 (7 sisters) rolling.
The machine has a Planex wifi dongle based on the RTL8188SU chipset.

During installation everything worked fine. Now when I login to the desktop there's no wifi connection.
Issuing "ifup wlan0" gives:
modprobe FATAL module p80211 not found

So it seems the module has been left out/no updated for a long time hence the wlan0 initialization fails. But as mentioned above everything worked during installation.

How do I get the dongle working?.

Thanks

System upgrading / Upgrading conflict systemd-sys...
Last post by py-thon - November 11, 2023, 10:41:46 AM
For some weeks now there are several packages I have not upgraded for a conflict shown in synaptic.

Completely upgrading would result in a defect package systemd-sysv because the new version 254.5-1 in its dependencies has a conflict with initscripts. The currently installed version 254.1-3 does not have this dependency (or rather conflict).
Updating all the other packages (excepting systemd-sysv) would not result in any defect package but means that the other packages from source systemd would be updated to 254.5-1 while systemd-sysv would stay at 254.1-3. I normally try to avoid having different versions from within the same source package on my system.

Any ideas how to solve this?

Applications / How does Sparky construct its ...

I have Sparky MinimalGUI. I'm hoping someone can give me a  description of how Sparky has put together the FreeDesktop menu files.  For example, which is the primary menu and what other ones does it include?

I'm asking because I cannot seem to create custom FreeDesktop menu categories, despite having done a lot of research. (See my related post here.)

To be clear: my question is NOT about jgmenu. I'm already aware of how the prepend/append files work.

Thanks so much!

Downloaded the KDE x86_64 iso of sparky but it said 64-bit when trying to run it. Am I missing something? Also looks like there's no live version just install.

Sparky Linux 8, Seven Sisters, with openbox, tint2, & a simple conky.

The bare desktop. Full-sized image here.

I'm using two menus. jgmenu is invoked by mouse right-click and also by clicking the colorful hamburger icon top-left. rofi is invoked with alt+space. Full-sized image here.

Here are a few open apps to show you the custom gtk theme I created.  Inspiration comes from the Sparky5 theme, but I started from the Basik theme. Full-sized image here.

Don't be sorry, thanks for letting me know that.
Anyway, I follow UC github, and there is only source available, not binary, so have to wait.

General discussion / Re: sparky linux 7.1 MATE
Last post by sparky270 - November 04, 2023, 12:19:00 AM
I just installed Debian 12 Live MATE, everything works fine and my wifi is recognized. There is something wrong in Sparky 7.1 MATE with the wifi drivers.
