Desktops / Some remarks and suggestions r...
Last post by Sadi - Today at 03:22:25 PM
I've recently begun using Sparky KDE as my primary OS instead of KDE neon, which has now become a secondary-backup system - both sharing the same /home partition without any problems, with only one minor exception: Bluetooth connections have to re-established, but doesn't worth it if you're not staying there for long.

It's interesting to see that the latest KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment can be enjoyed so well with Sparky KDE. Some things are even better, but there were also some that didn't work as well as in KDE neon out-of-the box (but I've quickly managed to fix them), although both are very minor.

I think the software packages that are installed by default in Sparky KDE can be reviewed, and some GNOME stuff can be safely excluded (e.g. gnome-themes-extra*) , and it seems there might be some KDE stuff that should better be included in the default installation (e.g. kde-config-plymouth, xsettings-kde etc.). I also had to use dconf-editor to make some GTK apps (e.g. bleachbit-root or even dconf-editor root) use the same icon and gtk theme as others.

So far, I haven't yet managed to include Firewall in my System Settings - probably I'll also be able to fix it by finding out that another KDE Plasma package is missing from the default installation of Sparky KDE.

Newbie questions / Re: Graphic issue with Sparky ...
Last post by TRon - December 04, 2022, 03:28:28 AM
My HD finally arrived today and I went with installing Linux Mint Mate. No offense to sparky but their community seem a bit larger and I was able to find some related issues in their forums.

The graphical issues are solved after having done some updates but mint mate 21 still has some bugs related to the BIOS of this jasper lake machine (seem to be a common issue for newer machines, some issues were fixed around kernel 5.15 but re-introduced in newer kernels). Unfortunately Sparky (but also other current distro's that I have tried/mentioned) show similar issues.

As soon as Sparky Mate becomes more mature I'll give that a go as I'm very pleased with Sparky on my old machine and would like to repeat that for this newer machine.

Is there a dedicated/known time-line/release schedule for Sparky Mate ?

Sorry for the noise.

Sparky uses Debian repos as default, stored in:
/etc/apt/sources.listDo you have it?
Looks like you use Sparky rolling "orion" repos so Debian "bookworm" is required too.

If yes, it is in debian main repos anyway.

That's right! It's zsh, do I need to setup those Debian repos?
Since they are not set on my current sources.

Sparky applications / Steam EAC isssue - Fail to loa...
Last post by Stormcorporal - December 02, 2022, 02:02:37 PM
Picture of error:

Steam  Failed Easy Anticheat module detection image

Cause: This is due to DT_HASH being removed and replaced by DT_GNU_HASH in Glibc 2.34 and higher versions.
Though, Most users detected it running Glibc 2.36 versions.

Solution: Gentoo, Arch, and other non Ubuntu/Debian distros have patched their Linux Operating system to include both DT_HASH and DT_GNU_HASH in "--hash-style=both". I am not a programmer and still Learning Linux to know what this means. Just did my research on the issue to help SparkyLinux be the first of Ubuntu/Debian distros to resolve this issue since there isn't any fix for them besides using an older version of Glibc less than 2.34. I hope this can be resolved as stated above or some other way that Sparky devs may know. In case more information is needed, check out the following links:

It's impossible.
sudo apt update
sudo apt policy zfsutils-linux

It is in Debian contrib repos, so make sure you have it enabled.
