I don't mind recommendations. It was not letting me continue with the install until I chose a password it agreed with.

That seems overbearing, doesn't it? As you said, I can change the password after install. So, why be so controlling during the install?

It sounds like you're saying it lets you do what you want. But, that wasn't my experience.

[Edit: My original post was using Sparky stable lxqt. I just tried Sparky stable xfce thinking perhaps I was confused in my first experience, or it was limited to just that edition. I got the same thing. It won't let me proceed to install until I satisfy its password requirement.

The way you spoke to me, it sounds like that's the last thing you'd expect it to do (that I was complaining about a mere suggestion about password strength). I assume this change wasn't intentional. I just wanted to report it. As I said in my first try: I've seen this once before. It was Linux Lite, and they said it was a calamares setting they weren't aware of, or got turned on by accident.

It would be more friendly if Sparky could go back to just suggesting strength like other distros using calamares. This is the only one I've run into that won't let you proceed with the install until your password is sufficiently strong. Not only does this seem antithetical to the philosophy of linux, but as Axl pointed out: I can change it later to be anything I want. Why can't I just do that during install? It doesn't make sense. It's a hoop to jump through that isn't friendly, inviting, etc. I only pointed it out because I think Sparky is a good distro, and this could be a turn off for people. It is for me.]

System upgrading / after upgrade from 7.8 to 8 no...

Dear all
today I upgraded the system from 7.8 Orion Belt to 8.0 Trixie
No errors occured during upgrade. After restart, the system starts as expected, but the KDE Menustarter does not have any entry. Everything is empty.
Also new was, that I must enter my password at startprocess although I set it up in the past without it.
How can I solve this issue?

Soleved: Started kmenuedit with Alt + F2 and pushed "Build Standard Menu" - than Menu Entry are visible.

The Enabled:yes addition to allows you to set Enabled:no disabling that repository. The repository is enabled without it.

Do you see any errors in the terminal when you run sudo apt update after changing to the deb822 format (the new way)?

NOTE: If deciding to manually change to the new format, ensure to rename the old sources.list files to .bak ; using debian command sudo apt modernize-sources does this automagically (without the Enables:yes).

I use Sparky Testing for years. I do not remember, since what time. The latest Sister version (Test) was updated through old format version. When I decided to  upgrade to tiamat version, I did not noticed the changing names post (as pavroo suggested). So I have used the way, I described in my 1 post. I have created debian and sparky souce repo files manually , de activating the Synaptic sources(or inserting the # in front of each line)

I do not see any error in the terminal. The difference is that the new way repo files does not catch updates and the old one yes.

Anyway... I will continue to continue Sparky Testing using old repo way.

Hi all, back in 2020 I used sparky linux rescue which had DDRescue-GUI. It's now not included and I'm curious if intentional and what can I do to have it readded? It would be great to have Victoria scan tool and even HDTune! Thanks.

  Let's see lad.

Because, it seems to me that you are messing up on your own. Whether you use the old or new format, the result can NOT differ.
 It must be the same (since you are using the same repositories).

So, check thoroughly if there are any errors (repository, signatures... etc).
Or use the available option 'sudo apt modernize-sources' that 21grams has told you about in his message.

Finally, check if everything is working as it should be ...

Meanwhile when I update repos in the new way sudo apt update shows the message : All packages are up to date.

Why this happen ?
