Title: Tapping doesn't work with synaptics touchpad
Post by: cr6 on March 10, 2017, 11:41:40 AM
Hello Sparky developers,

I've used Debian for nearly 3 years, so I'm not a beginner.
My current computer is an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop : very common hardware.

At the moment I am looking for a Debian-based distro for gaming.
Your "GameOver" edition sounds interesting...

Today I downloaded "SparkyLinux 4.5 GameOver" x86_64/amd64 ISO.
I burned the ISO to my USB key, then I rebooted and started the live system to test it.

First problem : I noticed a bug with gpointing-device-settings.
I can't use the "tapping" function with my synaptics touchpad, and it's very annoying.

That's very strange, because I don't have that problem when using the "official" Debian.

So, something is wrong with your ISO.
You should look at this bug and fix it quickly.

Regards.

Via official Debian do you mean tracking stable Debian or were you tracking testing Debian (#9)  Sparky utilizes testing .

If your laptop has a synaptics touchpad
https://wiki.debian.org/SynapticsTouchpad

Even if not a synaptic touchpad, there is info in the "Change to libinput Xorg driver in Debian 9 "Stretch" portion that might apply.

To the best of my knowledge, the touchpad software is all via Debian.

Thanks,

So you have just confirmed my bug report:

1) gpointing-device-settings doesn't work.

2) something is missing in your ISO to use the synaptics touchpad.

Have a nice day, goodbye.   ;)

Another alternative would be to do a clean install of Debian Testing via the RC2 candidate.  You would probably have the same problem.
