good day all

i'm having a problem with samba.
sparky6 to sparky5 = mounts share as expected
sparky6 to ubuntu mate 18.04.6 = mounts share as expected
sparky6 to sparky6 = will not mounts share

moving files between computers i'v been sparky6 to ubuntu mate 18.04.6 to sparky6 it gets it done.

sparky6 to sparky6
smbclient -L 192.168.1.50
do_connect: Connection to 192.168.1.50 failed (Error NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED)

sparky6 to sparky6
smbclient -L 192.168.1.173
Enter WORKGROUP\klein's password:

SMB1 disabled -- no workgroup available

SMB1 disabled -- no workgroup available   googling comes up with a lot of guesses nothing i saw as a fix.
any help or guidance i would appreciate

i'v been reading and trying more things.
in four computers all sparky 6.1 i changes /etc/samba/smb.conf to:
   workgroup = DOGHOUSE
   client min protocol = SMB3
   server min protocol = SMB3

  sudo systemctl restart smbd.service

sparky 5.16 to sparky 6.1 = mounts share as expected
ubuntu mate 18.04.6 to sparky 6.1 = will not mounts share, says getting share timed out
ubuntu mate 18.04.6 to sparky 5.16 = mounts share as expected

it does not seem smb.conf is being used because:
sparky 5.16 to sparky 6.1 = mounts share as expected
sparky 5.16 workgroup = WORKGROUP
sparky 6.1 workgroup = DOGHOUSE

i noticed that in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ i had a file called sparky-unstable.list.
on new installs i move that file and before any updates wala samba works .
i thought sparkylinux 6 was stable ?

after updating sparky 5,6 and 7
samba works between all versions.
all of this was i believe was done to accommodate win 10, and connect to windows easier.
i don't run win 10 normally and haven't tried to network with it in this test.
i use thunder and angry ip scanner to connect to other Linux computers.
