How can I speed up my system?

Hello, my friends. I am happy to be part of this community.

I have a Lenovo All-In-One desktop on which I have tried over two dozen Linux distros. Neofetch shows this data:

--SparkyLinux 5.14 (Nibiru) x86_64
--Host: F0BB00GULD Lenovo C20-00
--Kernel: 4.19.0-14-amd64
--Packages: 2755 (dpkg)
--Shell: bash 5.0.3
--Resolution: 1600x900
--DE: LXQt
--WM: Openbox
--Theme: Sparky5 [GTK2/3]
--Icons: ultra-flat-icons [GTK2/3]
--Terminal: gnome-terminal
--CPU: Intel Celeron J3060 (2) @ 2.480GHz
--GPU: Intel Atom/Celeron/Pentium Processor x5-E800
--Memory: 1504MiB / 3857MiB (***What is using up my memory?)

All of the previous distros I tried would invariably freeze up on me in the middle of work (mostly word processing), requiring a system restart. In this respect, Sparky is awesome. I have been working several days with no freezing whatsoever.

My only complaint is sometimes it seems to be slow. For example, I want to open a Terminal, and it can take up to 30 seconds to open. Other programs (Libre Office, for example.) can take much longer. Also many instance of temporary mouse freezing. Any ideas to speed up my system would be much appreciated"

Thanks in advance, and have a blessed, COVID-free day.

Hello, I can recommend using conky or the inbuilt qps to see what is gobbling up the memory. It is usually adverts in the web browser which kill the system so try an ad-blocker. I know it helps web sites for you to see the advertising, but if you see the ads, they crash your computer, so its a catch-22 situation and an ad-blocker will definitely help. With qps you need to click on 'Linear' and 'MEM' to see the processes sorted on decreasing memory usage. The biggest will be the web-browser or the office suite/video conferencing you are using. In addition, if you are using some home-brewed scripts, the memory management can be really wonky and crash the system, as I found to my cost ;-0

Thanks, my friend! WIll check it out.
