Recently I switched an old testing install to stable, as you can see in my recent post "Making choices on old repositories" in this forum.  Actually, everything went well, but when doing "apt full-upgrade" everything goes perfectly except I get an error
Quote1 package can be upgraded. Run 'apt list --upgradable' to see it.
Reading package lists... Done
Following the suggestion leaves me with:
Quoteapt list -a --upgradable
Listing... Done
sparky6-apt/core,core 20200324 all [upgradable from: 20190707]
sparky6-apt/now 20190707 all [installed,upgradable to: 20200324]

An attempt to remove sparky6-apt gives me a warning that it's not a smart thing to do.
My question is how to resolve this.  Why are there two sparky6-apt instances?
Thanks

pavroo

If you switched to the latest stable release 5, you should not install 'sparky6-apt' package.
'sparky5-apt' is the default one to the Sparky 5 only, so you have to install version 5 not 6.

Thanks for the reply.  Yes, I understand the whys of it.  In my recent post "Making choices on old repositories" I explained how I changed from testing to stable, and how pleased I am that the new system is working fine, minus this one small glitch I've found so far.  In fact, it's a workable system and I don't mind handing over this computer as is, but, even though you'd never guess it looking at the state of my kitchen, I'm kind of a perfectionist when it comes to computers.  So my question was, more about the hows.  When I try to uninstall sparky6-apt I get a strong warning not to do it unless I know exactly what I am doing, which I don't, so I'm asking here.  It doesn't upgrade but that also doesn't break the upgrading process for other apps.  How can I safely eliminate it?
Thank you pavroo for all the great effort you've obviously made over the years on this distro.
