I am using the rolling release and over the last couple of days I have noticed a couple of changes, the first one is a minor cosmetic change, I lost all the wallpapers that were availalbe and I had set on my screens.

Secondly and a bit more serious, the PC no longer asks me to sign in when it boots up it just goes straight to the desktop and finally while trying to resolve the login issue I noticed I don't have any usermanager gui anymore, that seems to have disappeared

Has anybody else seen these issue's?

Not enough info.  The DE is crucial.

"lost wallpaper"  Did you lose access to it via the gui or was it deleted from the hdd/ssd?

The posting of inxi -S would let us know your DE.

Sorry Paxmark, I wrote that over breakfast this morning while trying not to be late for work. Realise I missed off certain information, my desktop is XFCE

I found the wallpapers, they are in /opt/artwork I have no idea why they resorted back to the default sparky blue wallpaper

In regard to the usermanger, I installed gnome system tools which gave me access to a gui user-manager. Unfortunately when I checked my account it was set to ask for username and password when I login (what does sparky normally use for user manager gui??).

Bit of a search on the internet lead me to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf  and in particular the Seat:* section and the autologin-user=username line. This line was unhashed , I simply added the hash at the start of the line, saved the file and rebooted to test (logging off and back on again would ask me for the login details, just not on boot up). When it rebooted it presented me with a login box, I duly logged in and all is working well.

In summary everything is now working, I have no idea why I lost any of the above in the first place??

I will mark the thread solved.

I was going to say that there was recent chatter in the siduction forum about the bump upwards to .14 for Xfce4.  Minor little things as compared to the years of snafus in sid for kde5-QT5-plasma5.  This would be about the time xfce 4.14 should hit the "bullseye" - testing.

https://packages.debian.org/sid/xfce4

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?pkg=xfce4;dist=unstable        don't even look at anything older than 930000  nothing caught my eye.

Side issue, xfwm4 is one very solid piece of software.
